If this ain't the truth kpop lost its sparks idk what it is.. I mean epypen a big group ?

Besides the fact that they have no strong vocalists, I don't see what makes them so bad? They have decent songs (I HATE their vampire concept though), good dancers, popular lineup. And it's not like most bgs are debuting these days with at least even Xiaojun-level vocalists, most bgs are debuting with weak vocalists.

Also they don't have divisive music to the extent of say Stray Kids, so I don't see why Enhypen can't do well, they have the chance for more domestic popularity in Korea.

I think Heeseung/Sunghoon/Sunoo are already popular there and can be more popular with the GP. I guess the Boyz Juyeon leads in public recognition among 4th gen bgs (and then SKZ Hyunjin but not for good reasons) for now.

Enhypen have a few advantages:

Along with SKZ, they have one of the most dedicated international fandoms + a lot of good voters

There is a lot of content that appeals to fans (and they always pump out more content)

Their concepts do fit them really well -- although I find the Vampire/Try-Hard concept a bit too much for my personal taste, a lot of fans like it and they can go either way.

Fever kinda blew them up internationally + generally good music/reception

They visually perform well but thats general for most top boygroups

Little to no rap -- different from other kpop boygroups

They actually have the most fanboys for 4th gen boygroups, Jake in particular attracts a lot of fanboys. Sunoo/Sunghoon are popular too

Big Japanese fandom, especially with Niki

disadvantages:

They have a solo stan problem, and there's a lot of conflict because a lot of people believe Sunoo is being bullied in the group. However, the problem isn't as bad as other 4th gen boygroups like the Boyz, who have fans of certain members leaking scandals about other members..etc and it ends up being a huge mess.

Because of their age, a couple of the members get into attitude scandals, Jungwon among k-fans and Niki among i-fans.

Conflict among stans because they believe Heeseung is pushed the most

There's no strong vocalist. I-land in general had no strong vocalists, so Heeseung def struggles as the main vocalist. Sunoo is actually slightly stronger than Heeseung imo, but he has stamina problems so he gets significantly less parts. So that means generally weak/bad lives that are touched up with autotune to sound passable. But plenty of groups with weak vocalists have gotten popular.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The trend for Boygroups is for hype to die down after a while, like TXT had some of their hype die down after Crown/Cat + Dog...considering Enhypen and TXT all have the same positives (except Enhypen have arguably "better" songs + came from a survival show) their biggest chance for success is for Enhypen to hit bigger in Korea.

Enhypen has more stans/hardcore fans while TXT is more generally liked by people.  Enhypen just need to sustain this growth now.

During last times ENHYPEN became one of the most commented kpop groups on sns.

They sold 1M of copies and their members are trending and rising (Jungwon, Sunghoon, Jay, Jake).

If competition (TREASURE, SMNBG) not hit big maybe ENHYPEN will become the next big thing.

Your opinion?

I don't think SM will debut any new bg until 2025.

It's too early to say. Everyone in 2018/2019 was insisting Stray Kids or Ateez were the "next BTS" but they're 4 year old groups this year and have not yet reached their peak in popularity in Korea and still struggle to chart (while having huge international fanbases). Enhypen is up against 4th gen groups like The Boyz, I've heard AB6IX charts really well (are they even a 4th gen group since half debuted in Wanna One first?), and maybe TXT who I think charts the best after those two. Enhypen has a very strong and big and rich international fanbase and Polaroid Love charted a bit, but we have to wait and see imo.

Also I love both groups but Enhypen does not have better music than TXT. Not on a personal taste level, but the mixing and levels on Enhypen's music can be really bad.

Back in this thread to ask why is everyone saying The Boyz is a 4th gen group? They debuted in 2017 😭

I think they're considered a 4th gen group because they debuted in Dec 2017 and won Rookie Awards in 2018, the same year as the most recognizably 4th gen groups like Stray Kids. They're also often grouped together with Ateez and Stray Kids as the ZZZ groups. But it's a very arbitrary and murky distinction for the groups who debuted in 2017... like I would consider ONF (debuted Aug 2017) a 3rd gen group because of their ages (there is nobody born in 1994 who is debuting in the 4th gen anymore except for really nugu groups) + their sound and image reminds me more of the 3rd gen than the 4th, while the The Boyz seems to fit more into the 4th gen.

Ohh I see

I agree they do fit in with 4th gen groups more, so I can see that's why they are grouped that way^^

Hold up, really well? 🤔? Define "really well" here bc by mine and most people's standards when they hear "really well" they imagine those who actually managed to chart on Melon in top 20-50 (at least) on both 24h and the relevant daily Top100 chart (not the old chart). Aka relevant acts that gp knows and listens to.

This is the history of their chart perf

Their best charting was Breathe but it was released in 2019, at the time they debuted when the hype surrounding  Produce and Wanna One was still fresh. Plus back then the era was before 24h and the Top100, which was easier to chart with fandom's mass streaming. Their chart perf have gone down alot since then.

And lol no, they're actually not better than TxT and Tbz at all ( these latter two whom people wouldn't even consider charting "really well" either).  If you've seen or heard about Ab6ix being on the ranking as one of the better ones among 4th gen for digitals, that's actually cumulative streaming numbers since debut, you should know how streaming works especially by dedicated fans looping and mass streaming and again bc of Breathe, their most well-known song. Their subsequent releases since them have been doing poorly. Plus, TxT and Tbz seem to be on a upward trend and the interest towards them seems increasing and their fanbase is growing meanwhile Ab6ix is downwards, I don't really see much hype or interest towards them these days in comparison. Needless to say, although Enhypen's digital is also poor, but they have bigger fandom growth and could possibly gain interest and traction than Ab6ix in the future, some of the big reasons is to them being younger and under a big agency like HYBE although for now I don't see them being the next big thing.

From what I've seen on this forum they have lots of news about their attitude problems/scandals which means they're either controversial or getting popular or both

The next big thing for their weak singing skills, processed autotune music and members' problematic attitude controversies from time to time

honestly, it’s just mob mentality… stan twt has a weird hate-boner for them and so does pc

everyone always TALKS about how problematic they are but they haven’t actually had a major scandal yet, it’s mostly just jungwon’s dumb suneung comment (which he swiftly apologised for) and sunghoon not bowing properly to his sunbaes (which he’s made a major point of correcting)

like I honestly can 100% understand not liking their vocals but it bugs me how people are always trashing on their personalities when their scandals so far have been more mild than literally every other group I’ve stanned

Maybe ? They have a huge fandom and it’s all a boygroup needs to be viewed as a top group now anyway. But idk I still have a feeling that the boygroup who will lead 4th gen hasn’t debuted yet.

And I have to disagree that Enhypen’s music is better than TXT’s.
