According to the results of a survey on the sales status of Korean literature published overseas between 2016 and 2020 by the LTI Korea on the 18th, 'Kim Ji-young, Born 1982' sold more than 300,000 copies in 10 languages during this period. great timing lol I read it last week. I was shocked it was at my small town library, definitely shows it's popularity. I'd say if the plot interests any of y'all to just read it, since it's only like 150 pages and extremely accessible in terms of the writing style.

Kim Jiyoung Born 1982 was translated to spanish by Alfaguara a super prestigious house editor. That book, Almond and Pachinko are maybe the most succesful korean books overseas.

The reason why this book makes people so angry is because it is pure facts… she literally uses footnotes with evidence to show that everything she is writing reflects reality

Nothing radical about it, it simply exposes the discrimination experienced by modern women throughout the decades

it's a very relevant and important book and the movie is also well made. If you have a book or film club, it would be awesome to recommend and talk about it. If you're a teacher or educator, consider working on it with your students.

It will not only help shine a light on the staggering women rights violations in South Korea but also start a discourse of unpaid care work done by millions of women and the societal pressures they face by an old sexist patriarchy still in place in the world
