what is with the big uptick in male idols being involved in recent misogynstic scandals? it's been crazy how many there has been over recent days...

1.Leo from Trainee A (HYBE predebut group) writing lyrics about r*ping/k*llng women for a competition because he was "angry"

2. Minchan from Verivery saying that a female classmate "shattered his illusion of celebrities" because she wasn't "especially pretty looking" and then proceeded to give clues to his fanbase about which idol he was referring to and what group she was in.

3. Jae (formally of day6) calling his longtime friend Jimin Park/Jamie a "thot" and laughing about it, Jamie was extremely upset by this (as she should be)

honestly what is going on

There's been a lot of articles in well-known papers and publications that show that an increasing majority of korean men are raging war against korean women, women rights and feminism. Around 73% of korean Gen Z men voted conservative and for a far-right party in the last elections and 76% of them oppose feminism. It's like a massive push-back to the small efforts to help women have more rights in South Korea, since:

  • South Korea has had the highest gender wage gap among the wealthy countries for decades now and it's even worsened in the last years
  • South Korea ranks 127 out of 153 countries in terms of economic participation and opportunity for women
  • Less than one-fifth of its national lawmakers are women
  • Women make up only 5.2 percent of the board members of publicly listed businesses, compared with 28 percent in the US
  • gendered violence against women is increasing in South Korea

If you look just a little bit deeper and a tiny bit closer into the entertainment industry you can easily see that it's permeated with sexist and patriarchal ideas, including dramas and music.

For comparison: knetizens often demonstrate an arrogant superiority complex towards South East Asian media, but according to the OECD women in countries like Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Philippines and Myanmar have more opportunities and rights than women in Korea (or Japan too, since sadly it's really bad there for women as well)

Well, i'm not gonna say i'm not glad this isn't happening 👩‍💻 nothing like someone exposing themselves pffft no one but these dudes said anything, amazing

Idols should really get more freedom of speech, for filtering purposes of course. There's way too many idols anyway so why not get rid of those with ancient mentalities. Keep talking boys 👩‍💻

Just on the subject of Jae, he lived in America until he was 20, so he sure didn't learn all that misogyny from SK (he always gave me edgelord vibes even in 2015). He reminds me of a lot of edgy American guys who think they're so funny for calling women bitches and whores.

Welp, 7 girls from Girls on Top started 2022 with that misogynistic crap called Step Back and were proudly performing it with not an ounce of regret so who tf knows anymore.

Yup, they literally started on January 1 of this year.

you'd think idols/artists would be the most liberal people...guess not

Artists aren't liberal. I've had friends who are well known classical musicians here and they weren't the kind of people one wants to get close with,.
