DIA’s Agency Confirms Their Contract With Somyi Has Ended Due To Health Reasons

DIA’s Somyi is no longer signed under PocketDol Studio (MBK Entertainment).

On January 9, PocketDol Studio stated, “Somyi has terminated her exclusive contract with us for personal health reasons.”

Somyi joined DIA in 2017 with Jueun, debuting with their second studio album “YOLO.” She also appeared on KBS’s idol rebooting program “The Unit.” Somyi had been absent from official DIA promotions since their sixth mini album “Flower 4 Seasons” in June 2020.

After leaving her agency, Somyi is currently working as a broadcast jockey (BJ) under the name “Chomyi” on the internet broadcast platform PandaTV.

Acknowledging something everybody knew. .... Years later. The true MBK way.

I wish the best for Somyi. She was a first generation of fan of the group and then becomes its maknae. It must have been a dream come true. Except it was under MBK. DIA has now lost 4 members in 6 years (3 for "health reasons").

She left cause her contract with MBK ended. They was stupid enough to push her as center like half of a year before expiration and without prolonging it first. She was done with the company after 5dolls (same as other members).

Wasn't she basically kicked out for being called "visual hole" by some people? Like I remember in her very last stream she was crying and saying she wants to be in the group and other members had to cut it because company ordered it. Or something like that.

A few weeks ago I started thinking about her and was wondering what she was up to now. Hope she’s happier, I remember she wasn’t in a good space when she left.

At the very least though she's probably going to make more money in the next month or two than she made in her entire career as an Idol. Streamers with some popularity make pretty good money and Idols usually make basically none unless they're in one of the top handful of groups.

The last she was seen as a member of DIA was either a Vlive or IG live where she was crying and saying how sorry she was for not being pretty. MBK had Yebin (who shared a room with her) make her cut the stream as it was happening. Then she was gone. Presumably for mental health reasons (the same reasons Eunjin supposedly left the group). I never understood that though - Somyi looks a lot like (IMO) Jeongwha of EXID who is regarded as one of that groups's visuals, and attended SOPA and was a cheerleader in High School as a trainee, she was also popular on The Unit where she almost made the final group. She was also DIA's best variety person (naturally funny) in a group not great at variety (Eunjin commented on a stream after she left that DIA never got invited to variety shows because they were an unfunny group as a whole). As a former AID herself, the fans of the group seem to love her too based on online comments inquiring when she was coming back (they were still doing so long after it was obvious she wasn't).

I never found her ugly, but I clearly remember netizen comments calling her out as ugly and her saying she was send to rest so DIA can become more beautiful. Which is something MBK would totally do. As a former stan of their forgotten generation (from CoEd to The Seeya + Shannon and Dani) I cannot say anything good about the company which is why I decided to not get involved with DIA.

Imho if she debuted nowadays and with girl crush concept, she would be more popular since people are more open to "fox/cat features".
