2 time Olympic champion, Japanese figure skating living legend Yuzuru Hanyu attempts and lands the world's first quadruple axel in competition. He two foots the landing and is downgraded in points. However, even with a 2 footed landing he becomes the first skater to ever land the jump succesfully.

Hanyu won this weekend at the Japan figure skating nationals, his first competition in eight months. He missed the fall Grand Prix Series due to an injury to his right ankle, which has sidelined him three of the last five seasons. The 27-year-old also tied the record for most Japanese men’s titles in the last 50 years.

He is skating for a chance at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
