What happened to MAMAs? Why none of the top groups is attending this year?

When the articles about the FINAL line up came out, many people were sure that it was some kind of mistranslation and that there would be another line up with top acts. Turns out, we've been wrong because this is the final line up:

ARMYs were sure BTS were going to attend MAMAs this year but then the Omikron happened and Big Hit said the boys would have to be quarantined after coming back from the US. Another article mentioned that BTS weren't planning on attending the awards in the first place (what was later confirmed with the announcement of their official break).

We know why BTS aren't attending but other popular groups such as Seventeen, TWICE, Shinee, Red Velvet, Mamamoo (or Hwasa as a soloist) and Blackpink (or Lisa/Rose who were nominated) aren't attending either. 

What do you think is the reason? Why would they do something like this to themselves?

Didn't they say they wanted to take next year's MAMAs to the US? It might be impossible after this year's ratings/views  

Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems that the only groups general public knows here are Aespa, Brave Girls and Itzy.

Blackpink - YG has beef with MNET

BTS - not because of BigHit. It's because it's now a rule in Korea to quarantine for ten days coming from America whether they're vaxxed or not.

Twice - JYP probably doesn't care to send them

Shinee - Taemin's enlisted and they're doing solo things right now

It actually all comes down to mostly the companies not bowing down to MNET this year possibly.

I didn't even know this was so popular... Tbh I mostly watched f(x) and SHINee end year award performance and maybe MAMAs plus other performances. I'm pumped about this lineup because I've been so out of kpop and I'm eager to check new groups, independently of their popularity

Maybe because they're tired of MAMA's treatment? Last year the idols had to wait outside in their cars while the actors were provided with nice waiting rooms. But in MMA it was the same, TXT and EN- attended but SVT (and BTS but we know why) didn't. Does MMA also mistreat idols?

Completely forgot about that. I think that's a huge reason why companies aren't sending some of their idols this year.

They have a tour starting in December. The girls are currently preparing for it.

i'm used to the big 3/4 not attending now, but it's kind of weird how groups with big digital hits this year aren't invited, like oh my girl and stayc. a lot of people would create the excuse that they didn't make any impact, but if that was the case, a few of these groups in the final lineup and previous final lineups shouldn't have been invited lol. in the end, we all know it doesn't really matter and they'll just invite anyone for major viewership. it's disappointing though.

as for the rest, mamamoo's comeback obviously didn't do the best this year, but like i said, impact doesn't really matter since mama just creates awards on the spot. hwasa didn't have a 2021 comeback until recently, so have no idea why she would be invited. gidle is in a difficult position right now and i'm not surprised they're just focusing on solo activities. 

im honestly just surprised that no kingdom groups other than skz and ateez are in the lineup, or produce alumnis that made their debut like jo yuri and eunbi. a lot of missed chances this year.

nevermind big3 groups, where are the girlgroup. 4 ggs (3 since kep1er is quarantining) vs 8 bgs. where's wjsn, oh my girl, stayc (?? why they dont go to any mnet show), other roty nominees like jo yuri, hell im even gonna mention my bias loona since they are good performers. if they can invite 2 jpop groups with zero impact in korea just bc theyre from the produce franchise they can invite some b-tier ggs as well

last year no female roty nominees were invited, only weeekly attended to get their award but didnt perform. i dont understand mama.

No WJSN, MONSTA X, CRAVITY and IVE bc Starship vs Mnet beef

Maybe for that reason they want to save rating with Wanna One OT10 reunion

aespa and Brave Girls will be enough to save the devaluated MAMA 2021? (Thinking in korean ratings bc between ifans NCT and STRAY KIDS have a lot of hype)

I mean the only two groups i understand their absence are BTS and Twice.

BTS need a break and they have been attending awards shows in the US just recently, plus i think they were on like a tour? 

Twice have been very busy with their releases earlier, and now they need to prepare for their tour that will kick off in December, and it is a priority tbh. it's been a  while since they have been on tour and the members probably need time to rest and then prepare.
