Did Chungha lose momentum?

I'm genuinely asking

Chungha just came on my mind and I'm actually wondering

Where is she?

I'm aware that the release of her first album last year didn't do well compared to her previous hits. From that point she no longer has her usual impact

I Googled and she did release new songs but damn. It feels like she lost all the hype

This is sad. Is her company mismanaging her?

She released the album at the beginning of THIS year.

Unlike the usual release cycle we are used to (1 MV with full album and then repackage) she released multiple singles with MV leading to the album and is her best-selling physical album. I don't think she lost momentum, I think she is established already. And a "break" was needed after so much music in a short period of time.

idk if her company is mismanaging her but I do feel she didn't do as well this year. Especially compared to 2019-2020 which was a great period for her. Gotta Go was one of the biggest hits of 2019. Snapping, Stay Tonight and Play did pretty well too.

yeah i think so too. the comebacks she had this year (bicycle) didn't do as well as her previous ones. obviously her top three are rollercoaster, gotta go and snapping in terms of popularity but last year play did pretty well too. bicycle didn't rise up to the expectations ig

The concept/music style she tried was foreign to Korean public who used to enjoy her music. I don't she she lost it yet, she perhaps can gain the attention back with a familiar sound. Many artists face a slump in the middle of their career but manage to revive. However even if she doesn't recover, what matters is that her brand remains huge as she is already established and well-known. So she will make her money anyway.

imho her release this year, Bicycle wasn't good. There seems to be a change in her music direction(?) bc I usually enjoyed most of her releases up until last year but unfortunately this year Bicycle wasn't it.

i don't think chungha lost momentum. i think she solidified her position as a solo artist now so she can really take her time to record. i think people forget that roller coaster was such a big hit, but her comeback after which was 'love u' didn't perform as well, to the point where people forgot that that comeback happened. she has underperformed many times, and honestly... that's okay. i don't expect every single comeback of hers to be a hit. keep in mind that she came back with her first album this year. i think people forget that groups like twice and itzy are outliers where they release a full length album and a mini album in the same calendar year. that really shouldn't be the norm, lol.

with that being said, chungha had six releases in 2020 alone, ten if you include her collabs and osts. the girl was BUSY and seeing how it was her first full album release in 2021 and how many singles she had off of her album (seven singles!!!!) and how long it took to promote it, which is unusual in k-pop. it's only beneficial for her to take a break so the public won't be fatigued of her. i won't be surprised if she takes longer breaks and has a comeback once a year onwards, but releases a full length album alongside.

It's not realistic to expect artists especially female soloists to do well every comeback unless your name is IU whose music is eaten up by SK gp immediately. Even my bias Taeyeon has flop comebacks like Starlight, Why, Something new, What do I call you but she still bounces back from it. Heize and Sunmi also had those flop moments. So, I'm sure Chungha will bounces back too in the future. Hopefully.

imo the reason why Taeyeon had some flop comebacks is because her solo music & title tracks are diverse and experimental, kinda polar opposite of what gp expects from her. Chungha music does not seems as evolved as Taeyeon's and she kinda sticks to what gp expects from her which probably makes gp bored of her (?) It's like finding a balance between the fine lines to keep the momentum idk it's just my 2 cents.
