Parents should never ever say that kind of thing to their children. It just creates a blackhole of pain in your heart that never goes.

My parents supposedly tried for me for 10 years and you'd think I'd be treated like a treasure after not giving up for that long... HAHAHAHA! My mum spent near every day of my teen years telling me I was a 'waste of space'. What was the point of having me then?! Right before she died (I was 19 at the time) she tried to tell me how I was very loved and wanted but by that point it was hard for me to believe her. I wanted to but... Her actions and the things she said the most make it hard to believe. I humoured her at the time but it's still a rotting pain in my heart. I thought about it a lot back then during my teen years and to be honest, I still think that if I knew what I would be let in for emotionally, I would've aborted myself.

Anyway, I hope the guy doesn't give up. I hope he moves away from home as soon as he can and thrives. I hope he doesn't let his father take any credit for even the smallest successes he has and lets him just be bitter by himself when he's old and unable to help himself.
