"A fandom so low that they make you embarrassed"

original post: here

1. I agree with r*tarded fandoms~~~~~

2. For me, the change in their visuals is the biggest factor... Once they start becoming ugly and gain weight, I get turned off

3. For me it's visuals + when they start acting lethargic?

4. One thing for sure, self-management for their visuals and their dedication to work is more important than any controversy they get into

5. Change in attitude + a fandom that blindly shields them

6. My fandom has especially f*cking lots of individual fans, even if my bias is doing f*cking well, they need to put down the other kids... I was so turned off that I quit the fandom

7. I can get used to their faces changing because of aging, they're the main dancer, so as long as they're able to dance and they're good at their job, I can still like them. But if their face changes too much, I'm quitting the fandome

8. When I realize that the fandom isn't made up of ajummas but halmonies (grandmas), I get a reality check and leave

9. When their visuals change..

10. For me, either vacuum period or relationship

The lookism and ageism is off the charts…. Man Korea really needs to have serious discussions on their unhealthy beauty standards.

There are some serieus delusional people in the world." If my bias ages I won't like them anymore" As if they won't age themselves 🤦🏾‍♂️

You really can't cure stupidity these days.

you are forgetting that kpop is a hobby. no one is obligated to stan someone if they dont like them anymore, for whatever reason. shitting on people because of age and looks is of course stupid and rude, but quietly leaving the fandom without insulting anyone is not a problem.

I don't disagree with that, just the reason you mentioned yourself. Not liking a artists because of looks and age is weird and really only seen in kpop. I mean britney/Janet fans Still love them, even with many facial changes.

I knew Koreans are very superficial when it comes to looks and appearances, so Knetz/Kfans' responses don't really surprise me. They'd drop the idols like a hot potato when they got older, aged in looks and/or changed in visuals, thinking those are bigger deal than scandals and controversies. I wouldn't be surprised if they're the same ones that'd be delulu and defensive when their idols got  caught in scandals or controversies. Koreans are some of the most superficial nations in the world, they actually don't care that much about talent or personality like they claimed to be. That's why most of the time visuals tend to be the most popular ones and high rankings and most people who blew up, became viral and overnight sensation are the ones who fit Korea's beauty standards especially and suddenly they get cfs, endorsement deals, modelling contracts, etc. And then once their visuals decline, they're not being hyped or talked about as much anymore. Koreans basically worship people who are good-looking in their eyes.

I haven't really quit a fandom I've been in but there is one group I used to be crazy about but lost interest over time. It's because of one member whose ideals and political views that I get are his rights to have but still disappointed me. It's trivial but I can't find myself supporting and cheering for them as much as I did before because of one person.

the xenophobia here 💀 so many non-korean kpop fans also drop their faves when the visuals don't hit like they used to. if you don't offer much else, what could you expect?

i think the kfans are simply more honest about it

You know that is also a superficial thing? It doesn't matter which fandom does it, the fact that this is one the reasons is just stupid.

It's not that surprising though? As harsh as it is, if kpop idols can easily gain fans because of a thing as superficial as looks, then they can lose fans for the same reason too. How many idols can you name that are as talented as Adele or Beyonce or heck ariana grande, Taylor swift and other Western celebs? Hardly a few.

Fame built on superficial things will come and go just as quickly especially in a superficial industry like kpop but if the celebs are truly talented they will have the support regardless of their age. Adele was popular and respected when she was healthy and still is when she lost weight cuz her talent is the main selling point. Most idols sell their personality, visuals, mediocre dancing and singing skills when compared to "actual artists" so don't blame fans for moving on when they find someone better that catches their eye. Also ironic how Korean, Japanese, Chinese fans are known to be more loyal than most international fans that I have come across who change bias and groups on a monthly basis and move on to newer groups. But online they love to pretend how they are morally better than Koreans lol. Hypocrisy at its finest.

Obviously. That’s the point I was making, that and people are acting like only Korean people do this and it’s weird. They’re just self aware in a way that many ifans are not. The funny thing is, instead of ifans leaving because their fave looks different, they just get bored with their fave’s face and find a newer face to be obsessed with.

Plus, it’s not really THAT stupid of a reason, because visuals is what kpop groups are selling nowadays. Talent is less important, music is less important, personality is less important, and visuals are the top focus. So if you’re selling visuals, and folks are buying, you’ve gotta maintain the look.

I don't disagree that there is a portion of kpop selling that. But aren't you underselling some artist who are definitely not that? Such as Shinee/BTS/EXO, they have been in the game for a very long time and their music is actually good. So maybe some of the people on twitter are just superficial people who don't need any extra time 🤷🏾‍♂️

Although some kpop bands are created with lesser talents, doesn't mean other bands don't exist who do have talent. For this generation I hear Ateez is very good, however I don't know their personality or if they have any attractive members, but the word of their talent was spread to me and I started listen to their music. That means kpop can be more than some superficial thing, but only if fans and companies take their artist more serious and stop focusing on having a pretty face.

nothing but superficial reasons tbh. I can’t say I’m surprised since it’s the toxic kpop cycle to leave the older groups for the new younger ones. it sucks but it’s always been like that. that’s why gp recognition is important because it opens other doors for your career when a chunk of the fandom eventually leaves you.

personally, I only leave the fandom when I no longer like the group’s music or a member has done something so toxic that I no longer feel comfortable to support the group. but aside of that, if I like the music I’ll continue to stan regardless if the idol is old.

Sad but not suprising, a lot of ifans do this too they just like to sit on their high horse first - at the end of the day kpops primary attraction isnt the music but the overall package, visuals, and charms of the idols, and its why it will be never be taken seriously or have many groups with long sustainable music careers like beyonce, adele, etc partially due to the fandom culture around kpop and most groups

Honestly for me... I just drop kpop Fandom in general like I'm not following any of the groups or soloist I'm a fan of, just follow on spotify and I'll see new music on that "what's new" on spotify on the notification bell thing. And if there's mv maybe show up on my recommended. I really am just not into the fan culture and feel bad when I'd think how I find idols treated as objects by fans and companies, etc lots the time.
