Ten and Yang Yang in NCT Hollywood? Fans think they've found some clues

Ten and Yang Yang recently made their debut as a unit with an english language song called 'Low Low' this comes just a week after Ten's solo comeback 'Paint Me Naked' which is again, another english language track.

NCT 127 are slated for an album comeback this September, NCT Dream recently had their successful summer comeback and NCT U released a song called 'Maniac' These cover all of the main current NCT units, despite this there is confirmation of even more NCT branded projects coming including members talking about a mysterious 'NCIT.'

Fans think this unit could be preparation/promo for NCT Hollywood which seems to be coming very soon (possibly this nov/oct)

Jeff Benjamin tweeted 'new wayv unit' but with a winky face, quite sus

Here is my current thinking about the NCT Hollywood unit, there is no doubt it'll be a US/Western focused group and I believe the majority (if not all) of the members will be English speaking... but do I think it'll be a group of 5 white boys SM has picked off the street? no

I think it's going to be an 'International' group i.e one (possibly 2) member/s from each country who will represent that country, the NCT Hollywood show will be about finding the US member (Johnny is right there tho, this might be the one flaw in my logic)

I think SM has learned from SuperM not quite hitting the mark in the US and has changed their strategy for creating a US targeted group and this sudden Ten and Yang Yang unit has kinda confirmed to me that they'll be in it

Instead of the plans SM had before of creating worldwide NCT units (NCT Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Europe) etc. They might debut a group which has a member from each of these places.

What do you guys think?

I thought I heard SM has been planning a new NCT subunit to be unveiled this year? I didn't think it was gonna be NCT Hollywood, it thought it's gonna be a different unit. The NCT Hollywood thing might take some time to form since they haven't had auditions nor aired the reality survival show yet. So probably debut next year depending on whenever after the show finished airing.

I won't be surprised if SM add Mark too as they usually do especially for any NCT-related NA promotion/activities. He's like SM's fave go-to guy since he's NCT best rapper (also the only one who can legit rap in English) and a fluent and native English speaker.

I don't think NCT Hollywood will be a fully fledged unit, especially as from all the official reports about the show, it's about finding 1 winner. I think the new NCT Unit will be the NCIT international unit, with the new winner plus familiar NCT/WayV members and possibly a SM Trainee or 2.

I definitely think Mark will be in the unit, Johnny is the only one im ??? on, unless they are going to have 2 or 3 US members, which would actually make sense.

I don't think the survival show will be end up with a whole new NCT Hollywood unit like most people think

they need english speakers on that unit or it is going to become a superm 2.0 which only 1 or 2 members used to speak on interviews

I honestly don't know how SM thought that was gonna work - they put together the idols who are most popular in Korea and some of the noisiest kpop title tracks I've heard, one being called JOPPING and thought "yep, looks great, will dominate the american market for sure"

I doubt it will be only one winner. I think at least there should be 3 winners. Its not like the NCT brand is highly coveted or well-known among the general public in America for them to only find 1 winner. Although this show has a very well-known producer, TV network and no doubt big money investment behind it but this is not The Voice, X Factor, or American idol. People would think "oh only one winner?!!" just to be in a new show for a group that not many knew about. One winner thing would fit the premise of a show that's trying to find the next soloist like those shows I mentioned but imagine thousands of people trying out and yet only one winner will be picked just to be in a multiple member group based in Asia whose future is uncertain. Or they should make it like maybe 1 official winner and the other two will be picked from the other top 5 finalists.

I don't know how different this will be from SuperM except all the members might be able to speak English but they'd need to get guys from different races and ethnicities if they wanna make the group work in the West. Instead of making a predominantly Asian group, at least imo they need members from different races e.g. one white guy, one Black guy and one Hispanic/Latin guy. Otherwise, it will be not that much different from SuperM although ngl most of SuperM's failures were due to SM's/Capitol's cringey concepts and song choices (What went on in their minds?) more so than the fact most of the members couldn't speak English well.

I can't vouch how successful this will be but SM should realise their past mistakes with SuperM and hire a promotion and market research teams (full of Americans) if they're serious about wanting to do well in West. Otherwise, I can only see this be a repeat of SuperM if they let that cringey boomer LSM, who thought Jopping was cool, have the upper hand in all the final decision-making.

"K-pop boyband NCT are set to choose their next member through an upcoming TV series."
"The competition will pit 21 contestants against each other for a chance to join a new NCT subunit called NCT Hollywood."
- NME Official Article

During SM congress the subtitles said the show will find a member (singular) to join the nct Hollywood team, have lsm as a producer, and engage in nct activities in the US.

What fans are currently discussing on reddit about SM congress on reddit
"If the subtitles are correct, to me, that sounds like they already have a lineup for NCT-H with current members and are just looking for someone who won't need a lot of training to join. The Show will act as promo for the unit prior to their official debut."

Here's an interesting TikTok about the matter too.

Theres seriously not going to be an NCT Hollywood unit, this is SM looking for another Mark Lee, someone they can slot right in and can connect with international fans with minimal training while creating a show that will undoubtedly give the unit a LOT of promotion before they debut, something that SuperM didn't have.

My guess for the lineup is Mark, Ten, Yang Yang, winner of NCT Hollywood show, Johnny, a hidden SM trainee or two and POSSIBLY Shotaro and Sungchan cuz idk what the heck else they doing with them
lmao

Well then...I won't be surprised if the winner will be a white guy lol.

It would make sense since they're both English speakers but the clues aren't strong enough to be sure they'll be in the lineup imo.

Honestly international fans disliking this future subunit because they don't want to see white tiktokers as members is kind of petty reason compared to all the other serious problems this project could bring. I've seen K-NCTzens explaining why they're opposed to NCT Hollywood and they sound much more sensible.

SM is offbeat when it comes to understanding the US market and their "bad publicity is still publicity" marketing will not go well there. Survival shows are also a hit or miss, it could bring a lot more new fans to NCT or significantly cheapen their brand especially if rigging or evil editing is involved. But my biggest worry is about the cultural clash the American contestants will experience. I can't see young American men conforming to the idol industry expectations of having a squicky clean image, not being able to openly date, staying silent on political opinions, etc. I know North American born idols also faced cultural clash as trainees but they had at least years to adapt while this show will only last months.

I'd be lying to say that I don't see why SM is so hasty to have a US based unit and how it could be beneficial to the group. The older members of 127 will soon have to enlist and the unit will lose their main vocalists and their center/leader in a quick span of time. NCT Hollywood could easily step in to replace 127 as the unit doing consistent promotions in the US.

I understand the need for an American unit but I just can't fathom why they had to create this whole survival show and not just redebut the English speaking members who don't have to serve in the military along with the North American trainees that they surely have in the basement.
