Fans have found out that CLC has been disbanded through member Yujin talking about the status of the group on the survival show she is currently appearing on, GirlsPlanet999.

This is a very similar sitation to how fans found out about Gugudan's disbandment through Sally appearing on Produce Camp 2020.

that song only blew up the way it did because it was iz*one who released it, fresh off of one of the most successful survival shows in history

CLC consistently released good songs in their own right , but were never promoted in Korea enough to build a strong fan base there

Sad. They deserved better when they were active as a group. idk why Cube really sucked at promoting them.

I kinda see this coming when Elkie left and other members started to do their own thing and the hiatus.

I hope Yujin finds success on Girls Planet and prove to the contestant who insulted her, wrong.

kinda but. la vie en rose was 100x better than any of their other songs.

But dismissed is not disbanded, no? It's like neglected, but I'm pretty sure that if Yujin doesn't make it to the final group (or even if she did) they'll probably get 1-2 more comebacks to see the response before officially disbanding or not.

damn. i mean, i think we all knew already bc.. yeah

not even a stan but it still hurts to see her cry abt it on tv like that 😞 screwed over by cube until the very end, it's like they were actively doing everything to prevent their own group from suceeding... what a shithole of a company

CLC for me, has an immaculate discography since CRYSTYLE (I include Pepe too), they are the A+ but Cube never gave them that International treatment. Their songs do great in other markets but they don't tour? Makes zero sense. I wanna say so much more, but whatever...

The title is a bit misleading. I'm pretty sure CUBE not going to formally let the members out of their contracts till they run out next year. In Seunghee's latest Vlog she is clearly still hanging out at CUBE headquarters (even if its just to edit her YT videos).

Also, Yujin is not saying anything we didn't know. In Elkie's lawsuit last year to end her contract which was highly publicized in Kpop internet circles it explicitly said that CUBE "informed CLC members that [they] would no longer support CLC’s group development in February 2020." Which is pretty much what Yujin said. Elkie also said CUBE did not afterwards have any plans for the individual members careers which is why she left (and which apparently was a violation of the contract member signed since there seemed to be some guarantee of development for group/individual implied). The fact CUBE let Elkie go immediately and without a fuss (and no monetary compensation from her for breaking the contract early) shows she had them dead to rights.

Cube also seemed copyrighted everything CLC just prior to Elkie's lawsuit so the members could not take it with them and regroup somewhere else (which is pretty petty of them - I believe the EXID members still use that name, Ashley has said Polaris let the Ladies Code members have the name if they wanted to use it, and the Dal Shabet members also have the right to use it with the blessing of Happy Face Ent. despite moving on - heck, Soobin even changed her stage name to DalSoobin).

Now how intelligent CUBE is in doing this is dubious. "Helicopter" was the most successful single for CLC (especially internationally) to date and has the group's most YT views with 49 million right now (without any real bought ads for CUBE to get that number up). Also any company that has Seungyeon and Yeeun under contract and does NOTHING with them is clearly incompetent. Both easily could be solo stars and carry most of CLC's charisma. Sorn also has over a million followers on IG and TikTok and almost a million on Youtube and they never capitalized on her popularity either (she produced, financed and put together her solo single by herself).

But yeah everything that Yujin said was already known. Cheshires have figured out CLC was done once Elkie left and CUBE let her go.

Not shocking.  I sort of thought they'd wait to disband them until after Yujin was finished with the show, in hopes it could bring attention to the group (a la Nu'est), but that this is instead Yujin trying to revitalize her own career isn't that surprising.  Best of luck to all of them.  I especially hope to see Seunghee and Seungyeon still in the industry (albeit not at cube), because they are both so, so talented, and Seungyeon in particular for sure has enough star quality to be a soloist.

yeah that's exactly what I was thinking, I'm pretty sure they won't officially disband until they reach the end of their contracts.

Their contracts with Cube don't need to expire in order for the group to be disbanded. That's entirely up to Cube's discretion, unless the members fight for the rights to CLC after leaving the company and reunite elsewhere, but that's clearly not in the cards.

They've been "dismissed", meaning they've essentially been fired, just without the actual firing, since Cube is willing to sit on their contracts and let them expire naturally instead of ending them. In other words, Cube has locked them in the dungeon and thrown away the key. They're not waiting to see what happens with Yujin. It's over. Elkie said as much months ago.

lol i'm sorry, but i will always disagree with this statement, including the youtube comments where lver would've blown clc up. it is excellent song and clc would've killed it, no doubt. people might side eye my opinion because i'm a wizone, but whatever.

clc has released EXCELLENT songs before. but no matter how good the song is, success comes down to promotions and marketing, which cube has shown time after time that they clearly suck at doing that, especially for a group that hasn't found their footing after years like clc.

if it was clc's lver, it would've done the same as 'no'. somewhat of an increased international recognition, little noise in south korea, millions of views on youtube, #985 on melon. maybe i'm being too pessimistic, but they've already established their edgier concept in 2017 with 'hobglobin', lost momentum because they came back with a softer sound with 'where are you', built back half of the momentum again with black dress in 2018 and since lver was supposed to come after that... that would just be a repeat of their 'where are you' era where their newly found international fanbase would question cube's decision on not growing this darker sound they just established. while lver isn't as soft as where are you, it wouldn't be what their fanbase would be looking for, therefore stagnating them even more.

if people want a brighter side to my alternate timeline of clc releasing lver: atmost, it would be some kind of cult hit that gg stans would worship, like april's oh my mistake and fromis_9's love bomb. cube would just kill the momentum that they would soon garner after another year hiatus, lol.

Clickbait title

they haven’t officially disbanded.

remember the contracts for gp999 is gonna be similar to IOI where they’ll be able to promote in the gp999 group as well their original company activities

if yujin makes it into the final group clc could possibly have a comeback next year
