Red Velvet Wendy to be in the cast of the SNL Korea reboot

Recommended Posts

That's fabulous. Congrats to Wendy!

The original SNL Korea was amazing and hilarious. SHAMELESS PLUG:

Shinee discovers their manager's wife is a Shinee sasaeng

Part 1

Part 2

I hope the reboot is just as good. There are so many great skits.

Umm..... I wished this show was gone for good and never come back for a reboot. The controversial, messy and problematic skits. Korea is behind in awareness and sensitivity and doesnt know what type of jokes are appropriate to joke around that often times they're ignorant and insensitive towards some issues (race, religion, gender, etc.). Quite a number of celebs and idols got dragged for example the black/brown face, and a number of other racial and political skits they did. Knowing Wendy had made some problematic stuff like how she imitated black people (but I hope she's changed, realized how wrong it was and doesnt repeat it anymore), and now joining SNL, I hope she knows what's appropriate and inappropriate to joke about without stepping on the wrong foot. But ugh that also depends on the crew, writer and the pd of the reboot Korean SNL which have more control on the show, the scripts and the skits they make. I doubt this reboot is any better except the show's cancellation back then has gotten rid of the past problematic casts and staffs who happened to be involved in the inappropriate touching/harassment controversies. That's about it but nothing shows how remorseful they were about the insensitive and problematic jokes which they deemed the viewers especially international people as "sensitive people who can't take a joke".

I've been seeing the reaction on twt of the Fandom and they are MAD not only just Wendy fans but all Reveluvs international and Koreans are mad.

I read a translation of a kluvie twt and apparently the show will have the same staff and crew as before?  And what is worse is that apparently bc is not going to be in tv they don't have to stick with broadcasting rules so... Yeah it's gonna be worse

It's understandable why they're mad and they're right. This show has created some problems and issues with several idol groups got touched inappropriately in the past and not only that, several guests - celebs, groups and idols dragged for the problematic skits. Most of time I would give these guests the benefit of the doubt that they're ignorant (especially being brought up in Korea, they have no idea how problematic some jokes can be and just follow along with the scripts) and the content of their skits and scripts were planned and made by the SNL writers and pds but ofc not everyone thinks like I do. People blaming and dragging them for not seeing the how wrong and being okay with doing the skits (not to mention, it's the perfect opportunity for haters to come out of the woodwork to hate). The guests also getting the brunt of the hate. This show can make guests with spotless clean reputation becoming problematic and worse offenders overnight. If you're a cast member, it's much worse and you're under scrutiny every week and most of the time it's hard to avoid from being involved in some of the problematic stuff. Some jokes go overboard that even Korean audiences have problem with the show. I wished Wendy didn't join and idk why she agreed to join.

The same cast and crew...welp that's even worse. No broadcasting rules...yikes. Other fandoms better pray your faves won't be on this show either as cast members or guests.

Of all the shows to bring back the do snl 🤮... I remember how guests were attacked for some skits ( and the fact that this is one of the least problematic issues  in this show)

Funny you mentioned image

And what the producer is saying

"Futuristic  comedy" wtf is that???

Charity!???? Really????

The show was "canceled" (but apparently not really) due to the outcry about the harassment stuff behind the scenes not the tasteless and inappropriate humor. So I don't have much hope that part will change, especially if its basically the same people running it. Wendy would do well in a sketch show I think but I also worry for her.

The whole black girl imitation thing she's done (twice now!) was NOT at her instigation remember (though I'm also not excusing it) but because some variety host brought it up first and Wendy, being Wendy, just goes with it. On a lot of these Korean variety shows I notice it is the hosts or the scripted material that get the celebrities/actors/idols in trouble - basically the writers of these shows have no idea or don't care at all about cultural/racial/gender sensitivity - and as a rule talent agencies don't care either in terms of international reaction (see Source Music's tone deaf response with the Sowon/nazi mannequin thing or SM never even commenting on Wendy's past remarks).  And that's the main reason I worry for Wendy - the show will make her do/say something offensive and she'll take all the heat for it, not them.
