What’s the most ironic statement you’ve ever heard in kpop?

"we're a family" - every single company in kpop

Exactly.

The groups themselves feeling like families? Sometimes believable.

Companies feeling like families? Bitch please.

maybe it's just me, but I feel like it's the opposite??

boy group and girl groups in the same labels constantly trying to emphasise that they don't know each other even though they clearly do to some extent, etc

Lately, yes to keep the crazy fans from throwing hate at another group. But remember those YG family concerts or the SMTOWN ones? Even the JYP Nation BS? It's all to say "we're one big happy family."

yeah I know a lot of people interpret it that way with the tshirts and the collabs and blah blah and I'd agree to a point, but I mostly just think special concerts aren't all that deep and are pretty much just another way to make money

I also don't really agree that sunbaes/hoobaes are told to fake it on stage/in front of the cameras, usually if they don't have a friendship or prior history they'll just say so outright, and if they do, it usually checks out tbh

edit: also I kinda get what you mean with the names but I also think it's partially just useful to have a name to refer to a company's artists collectively by

It's mostly about the companies claiming they're a family to create company stans. Not the groups because I do believe most groups are friends but the companies saying they're all a family is pure BS.

That's why I said it's an ironic statement 👀 Because it really does not make any sense whatsoever especially the YG family stuff lmao

yeah

it's actually kind of an interesting point you made about trying to create company stans, I hadn't thought of it before

I used to be a cube stan (meaning I was inclined to support the artists, not blindly worship the label), and I was super into united cube stuff lol

When I first became a kpop fan I bought into the SMTOWN family stuff like trying to support all the artists which I liked them but I really only liked three artists from the label at the time. I saw how everything was marketed soon after and realized "OH THEY JUST WANT MORE OF MY MONEY".

It's also ironic because of the way companies kick an artist out and never mentions them again i.e. Jessica, Jay Park, BI, Han Geng, etc. You know what I mean.
