Article: Classmate who posted about ITZY Lia's school bullying determined 'innocent' in defamation lawsuit

Source: Yonhap News via Naver

1. [+2,380, -42] If a victim is claiming that they suffered school bullying, then the attacker should apologize. How dare you file a lawsuit for defamation? That's just rock bottom character ㅠㅠㅠ People with poor character are always ticking time bombs.

2. [+837, -21] Seems like Park Jin Young has no problem protecting his own no matter what bad thing they've done. Sigh, can't trust anyone anymore.

3. [+538, -14] If she won the defamation lawsuit... then she should counter sue right back~~~

4. [+363, -32] Iljins should just be given the death penalty. If you think of all the kids who took their own lives after suffering at the hands of iljins, even the death penalty isn't enough for them.

5. [+166, -0] As if bullying others wasn't bad enough, she had the nerve to sue someone for coming out with it. What a piece of total trash.

6. [+131, -2] So this is basically legal confirmation that she was a school bully. It's only been rumors up till now but the police basically confirmed that they're true then.

7. [+78, -1] JYP is terrible... they should've been looking into the truth and getting ready to apologize but all they did was blindly believe their own idol and threaten with a lawsuit. They deserve to flop.

8. [+66, -3] Park Jin Young-ssi is normally the type to disband a group with a scandal like school bullying but I think he's too greedy now to throw ITZY away. Let's please assess character before debuting people. Stop picking kids with empty brains ㅠㅠ I really thought Park Jin Young would know better.

9. [+59, -1] Really disappointed in JYP....

1. [+958, -7] Lia has now become a school bully that even the police have confirmed... ㅋㅋ

2. [+450, -9] Suing the classmate for defamation basically turned into confirming the rumors. I'm so glad for the victim. Imagine how difficult it must've been for her with JYP threatening lawsuit... I always had a positive image of JYP but this is disappointing.

3. [+390, -5] What kind of country's laws allows an attacker to sue their own victim. Serves her right.

4. [+193, -7] Super disappointed in JYP... their image is basically on par with YG now...

5. [+158, -1] How shameless to skip the apology and instead go straight to a defamation lawsuit

6. [+42, -1] I always thought JYP used to run investigations before taking action. Seems like they just go straight to lawsuits now. I guess character isn't important to them anymore.

7. [+29, -0] That poor child, just barely in her twenties, and having to put up with police investigations because of this defamation lawsuit. I hope this celebrity reflects on herself...

8. [+30, -2] Thank goodness the police did their job this time. Can you imagine if the victim actually lost the lawsuit? Thinking of that actually makes me angry ㅡㅡ actually, why would you even sue her?

First of all, I had no idea this was a thing. Secondly what does this mean? Did the police dismiss it because there weren't enough evidences to decide if the victim is lying or because Lia was indeed a bully?

If it's true, congratulations JYP, now you can stop with that "oNLy GOoD pEOpLE IN mY COMpANy" bs considering this is your 2nd idol involved in a bullying scandal...

I had no idea she was even involved in a bullying scandal, but Itzy's reputation could be about to take a serious dive if this blows up. She should be careful, if there's anyone their group can afford to toss for damaging their rep, it's her. Girl can't dance to save her life.

The police said "What A wrote on the internet community site was an expression of their experience, and we find it difficult to see that its purpose was to defame Lia".

^ there's no evidence to prove that what "A" said was false, but it doesn't mean that what she said is 100% true.

Having disagreements at school or even swearing while arguing with someone are things that happen in every school, unless it's a school that has robots instead of humans. Now, the problem is people claiming these things as bullying to damage an idol's image.

to everyone wondering this originally came out in february when everyone and their mother's was getting 'exposed' for bullying but i'm pretty sure jyp quickly denied or said they'd take immediate action which is why it didn't become a hyunjin situation, i thought the whole ordeal was finished back then though.... wow. i guess we'll see how this unfolds if it unfolds at all

I mean Lia aside, they have a point. The way South Korea's defamination laws are set up, it is pretty fucked up that people can sue for defamination even when they're in the wrong.

That said, I sincerely still hope Lia wasn't a bully. If something did happen back then, I hope she grew from that. But if she really was a bully, then thats disappointing  to say the least.

I read a little bit on the case & it seems like the accuser didnt actually say Lia's name so that's why the company can't sue for defamation. If that's the case, the accuser could still be a victim of bullying and Lia could also be innocent. It's still too soon to accuse either of lying..idk if those comments just read the headline & ran with it.

My other question is..how or why did jyp's legal team decide on suing when there was not enough evidence to build a case? it's either because there was or theyre incompetent af..yikes

You have no right to say ppl should get over themselves especially if they still are having a hard time due to middle school bullying memories that are still haunting and traumatizing them until now.

Is bullying having bad blood and zero friendship feeling with someone else too?

Not directly but it can lead to bullying. Back in high school, a classmate of mine had a falling-out with her friends. Her former friends then started spreading rumors about her and gave her the stank-eye whenever she would walk passed them. They made sure the people around her started looking at her differently and all that cause she was no longer "cool" in their eyes.

Petty fights are something you can get over but bullying? Not so much. Especially not when it's occuring during a time where you're supposed to figure out who you are and what you want. It can really halt your mental growth and as we all know, physical wounds can heal in days while mental wounds can take a lifetime. I got bullied in elementary school. Everything I said or did was used against me (like in court) and due to this I still have a hard time speaking up or doing things without going trough 500 possible scenarios. I'm obviously much better than back then but since I'm in my early 20s now (meaning it's been a long time ago since I got bullied), it's been a pretty "slow" process.
