it's probably hard with J-idols but there are some non-idol groups that could be a bit similar like Kalafina and Little Glee Monster, they're vocal groups but a bit different from what I can tell

Among j-idols you might like Ebichu but their style is also a bit different, more groovy

LDH has some non Exile-tribe girl groups but I don't think they're what you're after, they're more pop than akb

 

for kpop everyone is suggesting omg/gfriend/lovelyz and they're right but it's their old songs

omg's recent releases are very different and gfriend just disbanded

Lovelyz has also changed their sound but they could go back, their latest single still had some elements of that sound
