What is NCT 127 vocal ranking as of now in your opinion ?

Well, if we’re doing it based on breath support etc (basically based on proper technique) I think it goes like that

1) Doyoung

2) Taeil

GAP

3) Jaehyun

GAP

4) Jungwoo

5) Haechan/Yuta/Mark

GAP

6) Taeyong/Johnny

I didn’t include Winwin but he would be last

More or less the same. Mark has a LOT of potential but guy rarely sings and the only times he sings he sounds super decent lol. Johnny barely has any lines to judge 💀

Yes each time he sings it doesn’t sound bad at all somehow... But he doesn’t sing that much so.
To be fair half of the group barely  sing 💀 Johnny sounded cute in Hope tho. If you see their line distribution without knowing anything you would think Jungwoo is the weak link but he can actually properly support and better than most NCT members

Pretty much this.

Kinda OT but it really saddens me how Jungwoo hasn't gotten a proper chance to show off his vocals, cause a lot of people don't even realize he's in the vocal line..

Yes it’s a shame. He’s 4th strongest in 127 (the choir of NCT) and stronger than everyone in Dream and Wayv beside Xiaojun. He deserves better.

I didn't know that Taeyong had some support (I suppose shallow support). Johnny yes I guess because he was in a choir (poor guy who ended up a rapper).

Speaking of Mark, I've noticed that there are a lot of clips where he sings in a very airy way (I guess it's because he's shy and doesn't have much confidence). But there are rare clips of him where he sounds stronger.

Like this clip or his singing part in miracle (0:31).

Well Mark is not bad up to E4 in general, it’s not that surprising he got in as a vocalist and it happens that he maintains a pretty decent approach in a narrow range.

None of them are true vocalists, but I guess they fit SM's genre of rap/speaking melodically

... They are ? You stan SHINee right ? Well sorry to break it to you but the two main are better than current Taemin lol. If Taeil and Doyoung who can support their mid belts and have above average development for tenors aren’t true vocalists what can we say about 95% of 3rd/4th gen

Taemin has regressed since his prime, before he was better but mix wise he really got worse... Taemin has Eb3/E3-G4/G#4 now Taeil has better lows and in belting they’re the same, Doyoung is better much better placement and he can actually bring support to his A4. You probably don’t even know what I’m talking about your ignorance is showing

no he has improved so much since debut and is obviously stronger than any nct member in all regards as a veteran in the industry

If we’re talking about his improvement since debut he’s the idol that has improved the most in Kpop. His improvement was phenomenal, something you see once. But he’s not as good as he used to be during his prime and it’s a truth. Still his growth is admirable I won’t say otherwise. Seniority has nothing to do with technique, EXO has better main vocalists than SHINee and they are their juniors. And where is he stronger, in his mix ? Doyoung has a better mix. In his lower register ? Taeil has better lows.

Edit : can people who clown me explain why they disagree ? Is that hard ?

Yes Taeil was the best...Taeil is still up there in the group not many members have developed their technique as much (well no one beside Doyoung lmao) but he has more issues like nasality and tightness (it’s something he deals with since debut and I think it got worse because of the overworking and the producers extra ass with the high notes), he really reminds me of a stronger DK in that aspect. Doyoung has never been far from him tbh he just took extra vocal lessons and got better to the point he’s the better vocalist now. They’re close anyway, there’s no huge gap they’re both above average vocalists.

Seokmin doesn't really sound nasal but I can see what you are talking about o.o happy about doyoung ,it must be hard to work enough to be the best in your group, maybe he can get great lyrics°^°

DK does have a lot of issues with nasality, I think it has been mentioned in the vocal thread, if he could work on his openness and placement he could be on par with Taeil/Doyoung and closer to Seungkwan who has a very forward approach.
Yes Doyoung really worked his ass on his mix, he has grown a lot as a vocalist since debut it’s quite rare (most idols stay the same during their career), the difference is striking when you compare his pushy F#4 in Without You to his supported A4 in his recent cover with a well placed B4. I’m happy he’s improving too, his hard work is paying off.

He does o.o??? Damn I'm deaf I can't hear shit TAT he loves singing so I hope he finds that openness,  it's weird how both got trained by same people but have vastly different approaches, I wonder what is the difference.

I think reason most idols stay same is due to something Hoshi said, he said before as trainees you get to sing bunch of complete songs everyday. As idols they only give you few lines, so it's hard to improve that way. Idk I think that's why most idols can't improve, because people stop actually aiming for it.

I will check out Doyoung's cover, I think I didn't hear the new one, I actually really like his voice as a tone on its own, so Im happy if he improves I can hear more lol

I think that’s because Seungkwan before going to Pledis had much better foundations than DK. I remember one of his predebut performances before he became a trainee and I think he resonated a G4 or something lol. DK probably could support before too but nowhere near as strong and developed as Seungkwan’s. Also I think Pledis didn’t do much for them, most companies push the main vocalists to do dance lessons and their vocal training is neglected. Even SM the company known for their vocal training is like that.

I think idols have busy schedules and don’t have much time for vocal lessons. To improve significantly you have to sing for hours. I also think it has to do with dedication, if you really want to improve you can. Doyoung improved a lot in 2020 (he’s still improving) and NCT was really busy that year after all. Not everyone has that dedication lol, most are satisfied with their current level.

He did justice to Wendy that’s all I have to say. I really like his voice too
Btw I’m kind of into SVT these days, should I do a vocal ranking? Or am I going to get clowns and skulls like here lol, people are sensitive when it comes to vocals

Ofc!! Just make sure to use more recent videos as I think there is a difference with old and new o.o and lol ofc no insults ;-;

I think luckily svt members did notice company is not doing anything for them, last I checked hoshi was going to a second vocal coach, so I think there is a an effort, but idk when will we see a change o.o

I’m not the type to insult lol just saying things as it is... Honestly their main vocalists are good esp Seungkwan (I’m lowkey obsessed with his voice since 2015... And I'm not a carat YET), they definitely are above average for boy groups so it’s going to be fun. Also Ik you’re a Hoshi stan and if it makes you happy he’s third in SVT.
For their performances if I do a vocal ranking I’m gonna use their best moments so it will have both newer and older moments. For exemple Seungkwan performance on KOMS is one of the best I’ve heard and it’s three years old.

I’m not surprised... Pledis being incompetent what’s new

OH I just said since that's easily where it goes on Reddit etc ;-; it makes me sad, so it was nothing personal to you, just classic words °^°

Seungkwan is amazing as a vocalist TBh, happy you like his voice as well as Seokmin's!! Hoshi is listed as a lead vocalist therefore I assumed not too bad lol, he was also in vocal unit originally but changed places with Woozi °^°

Talking about Woozi, you might want to check fanmeets for him, I frequently saw him sing GG songs in original way, I think one I remember most clearly is him singing Gashina.

For vocal unit members older performances are not too much of an issue o.o but some members like Minghao, recently showed their capability so I assume older videos wouldn't be too reliable with them, tho Idk to what level you will do a ranking.
