Aespa’s ‘Next Level’ comeback stage on Music Bank

original post: theqoo

1. Winter and NingNing did well on stage, the two of them are stable

2. I like Aespa, these days, I just listen to their songs every day

3. There is no member who can dominate the stage

4. Giselle suits her hair so well

5. The stage is boring

6. The choreography was a bit boring, so the stage was empty. I also like this song, so I was looking forward to the stage, but the choreography was a bit disappointing

7. The song is good but the stage is so boring,,

8. The stage is a bit boring but Karina is so pretty

9. The choreography is boring, the song and concept are good, but the performance is too weak

10. I think the kids have good skills, but the song itself is a bit slow so the choreography seems a bit slow

Aespa’s first “Next Level” stage is receiving divided opinions

There are people saying that the stage set up was a shame and that the dance was lackluster

1. The stage seems a bit empty

2. But did they lip sync??

3. The members’ skills are good, but the choreography and stage are too boring for the song

4. The stage is boring

5. The choreography seems somewhat boring. The song is good but the choreography is not good so the stage is not fun

6. The kids did well on stage, but the camera was disappointing..

7. There’s no member who can dance better than I thought

8. They dance well, but the stage is too big for the number of members so it looks empty

9. I was hoping for the choreography, but it was worse than I thought

10. Compared to the song, the choreography is boring

Honestly, there are so many girl groups with charismatic concepts right now, even who performed with them this mubank episode, and the aespa members just... aren't that charismatic.  The concept isn't right for these girls at all.  I think that was obvious from the getgo, but it's especially apparent with the half dozen other girl groups who showed them up last night.  I think aespa is SM's attempt to do ITZY, and it just doesn't make sense.  ITZY members can perform their asses off, so they can and should do these concepts.  The aespa members have a lot of talent (like proper-ish vocalists), so it makes no sense they would do a song that doesn't highlight that, and instead try to do these loud boring hook songs that only ever work because the artists have the stuff to pull it off.

Ok so lemme be the unpopular opinion then...

People are getting too used to these hard ass choreos that are just hard for the sake of being hard, they don't look "good" or precisely technically good or something they're just tiring. And every. fucking. group. nowadays has that type of choreo going on. I'm G L A D SM hasn't followed that trend (yet) with aespa although NCT has shown signs of it (but they're Testa children so that can't be helped at least he makes technically good choreos). I hope they don't follow that and do whatever they're doing, these girls don't need to pop their joints and backs to appear like they're good dancers... Honestly speaking this song AND choreo are good enough, people are just used to... extragant looking stuff nowadays like I said. Next level for ME is a breath of fresh air as is aespa even though Black Mamba had the hook composition to the song. Yes I don't want them to be just another group with loud music and pointless hard choreographies, I want POINT moves B A C K and they're giving me it

There is nothing wrong with the choreography. It's fun & cute. They were boring tho. Ningning has the best stage presence out of the four, and even she fell short. Honestly, the girls aren't ready for hard choreography now, Katrina is the main dancer & she can barely keep up the lead dancers of this generation. Maybe when they all improve. And the choreography doesn't have to be hard, I'm honestly tired of these choreography. I need something that is easy & fun to learn. They can improve their stage presence & they're good to go.

what??? she’s a main dancer??? dunno how she got the main dancer title, happened to see a fancam of hers dancing to this song a couple of days ago... and i honestly wasn’t impressed? i dun see any main dancer quality at all. if she’s really a main dancer she definitely needs to continue working hard to actually look like one.

She’s SM weakest main dancer so far and by A LOT... Honestly SM vocals aren’t what they used to be (they’re still pretty good tho) so at least I hoped they would have a very strong dance line like NCT. But nope. The downgrade is big technically. They’re not even on par with NCT vocally that’s sad

Something about their performance feel empty and boring. These girls lack energy and stage presence except Winter imo.

I'm kinda baffled SM didn't add more members and just make Karina as the main dancer when she isn't a natural skilled dancer and not up to the level of Seulgi, BoA and Hyoyeon. Or maybe I'm being unfair comparing her to big seniors? Fine, she's still not up to par with other 4th gen peers like Ryujin, Chaeyeon, etc. SM messed up by kicking out Hina.

Why are people obsessed with main dancers that have like 10 years of dance lessons behind them (as well as groups that just focus on performance, fuck 3rd and 4th gen). The girl is a good dancer, shes the main dancer. Its just giving me 2nd gen vibes. Stayc dont have one either

Agree that it was pretty boring but I won't attribute it to the girls. They killed Black Mamba.

It's just that this song and choreo are very uninspiring. There's no drop or signature move like in BM, it's pretty much in the same key the whole time until the abrupt bridge

or maybe don’t dismiss those main dancers who spent their life honing their skills in order to defend your fave?? personally i think karina makes a very good centre, her visuals are insane — but i was honestly shocked when i read the comments in this thread saying she’s a main dancer. if SM wants to insist on calling her a main dancer then whatever but you resorting to dismissing other main dancers is so pathetic. by doing this the one actually being unfair to her is SM. they’re giving her unnecessary stress by forcing a title upon her where she pales in comparison to her fellow peers.

edit: your comparison of stayc is not even relevant considering they didn’t even bother to appoint one member as an official main dancer

Look at this video

The 'Kick It' cover was tragic. Karina was the only who could work it. I was shocked at this level from S.M. It was already shocking to see this level from K-pop idol in the first place.

Boy group hard dance is not essential to girl group still, it showed they lacked versatility and the skill needed.

to be fair i think SM’s forte has always been about vocals and visuals rather than dance , rap and performance; and aespa are still rookies who have lots of room to grow and improve

i just wish they wouldn’t force titles on their idols if their skill levels are not up for it, because it just gives them unnecessary stress and scrutiny, and i find that so unfair to these poor girls

but yea ok that video was definitely painful to watch...

Now that's just not true.

All of them can arguably support to a extent, which can't be said about all NCT vocal line. Ningning and Winter are better than basically their 4th gen colleagues in terms of vocal. They're no mamamoo but saying they're weak vocally is just wrong even comparing to past SM groups.

The members look like they were forced to perform and wanted to leave the stage asap. Honesty I think I've never seen a group from BIG3 with so little excitement to perform. Lip synching makes everything worse.

What is SM without controversy and drama for their groups whose just basically starting out lol.

SUJU, SNSD, EXO, RED VELVET and now Aespa are being called Talentless, Boring, Lacks Charisma, Disappointment blah blah.  Yet from time to time again, this groups have proven themselves in the industry whether if it's in the Talent/Performance level department or in terms of Success. It will happen to GODSPA eventually.

You’re right but they don’t have a stand out vocalist, I agree Wayv/Dream are weaker than Aespa but here comes 127 and you aren’t going to tell me they’re stronger than them (the main vocals are Ningning/Winter right ? They’re not any better than Taeil/Doyoung for now). But you have a point. They’re miles away from other 4th gen ggs that’s why I said they were pretty good. I don’t hear any big downgrade vocally but dance wise... Yes. Hopefully they will improve. Also never said they were weak vocally, just that they don’t have any remarkable vocalists
