Article: BTS Jungkook starved for 5 days to shoot 'Butter' MV

Source: Insight via Instagram

1. [+114] It's good to work hard to produce a pretty music video but your health should always come first. Please take care of yourself above all else ㅠ

2. [+71] Jungkook does not need to starve...

3. [+29] That's not good for your health..

4. [+24] Oppa... you could die like that... you have to live a long and happy life...

5. [+21] No wonder his cheeks looked so gaunt

6. [+9] Wow

7. [+5] Legend... he was able to handle it because he has a lot of muscle probably. If it were me, I would've started fainting around day two.

8. [+5] Wow, I could never do that

9. [+2] I misread the title and thought he only ate butter for five days

10. [+1] This makes me upset

Nahhh this is mediaplay (a weird thing to mediaplay but ok), there's no way he still has the energy to shoot a music video after surviving on water for 5 days, heck let alone shooting an mv, he probably would faint in a couple days.

There are actually a lot of people who do this and survive.. I guess he still had protein shakes or a sweet potato to be able to dance.

Remember when IU only ate an apple during 1 week for the shooting of red shoes? It happens to a lot of celebs

I looked it up and apparently he said just water. Music video shooting is very tiring and often takes 10+ hours, i mean idk how long it took for Butter, but i'm sure it wasn't done in like an hour. So water for 5 days, dancing and acting for at least half a day, while still looking ok, and not end up immediately hospitalized afterwards, i don't buy it.

That’s even worse. Let’s say he didn’t just drink water during these 5 days, why the heck would he lie about something this dangerous and unhealthy and share it to his fans? What the actual fck. Just like you said that’s a weird thing to flex/mediaplay

I'd believe it, it's the kind of world they live in

It's not healthy  but at least he knows it's not a lifestyle but a few days stopgag for a single product. Many idols and actors do things to their body temp to look certain ways for certain objectives, so while it's not great, I don't think it should incite people either.

He also didn't recommend it or tout it to fans, if I remember, he was talking to J-Hope and it kind of came out and J-Hope was kind of shocked as well so I assume it's a personal choice he made in regards to his own body.

I believe that idols do extreme diet all the time and it's sad that they have to do that, but they usually still eat something, like Soyu only ate half an egg every day iirc, and not during filming a music video.

Remember when Nuest's Minhyun made up a story about stealing a bike? It's not like he wants to be known as a thief, celebs are just used to say extreme things cause their career depend on getting constant attention. I suspect a lot of these "i only eat a third of a basil leaf everyday" stories are exaggerated

Even if he doesn’t recommend it, it still gives ideas to fans. Most idols share their unhealthy diet programs and then say « don’t try to do this guys!!! That’s super unhealthy and I did it because I had to, just for a few days before the photoshoot » but fans DON’T CARE about these small warnings. They see their faves doing this diet and looking fine? They will do it too. Especially if they’re young, they don’t care about the consequences. I remember when I was in middle school and nine muses talked about their « cup diet » sooo many people were saying how dangerous that was and you know what? I still tried it even though they were not my faves. So imagine seeing idols you actually stan and follow and « idolize », you would want to do anything they do. That’s why idols shouldn’t talk about their current unhealthy diet, even on vlives.

This. The exact same thing happened when Jimin mentioned he had a crazy diet during the preparation for Wings era. He talked about it on a popular cooking variety show in 2017.

I find it quite revealing how some fans want idols to be open and honest but yet cancel them as soon as said idol talk about the darker sides of the industry or share something honest about themselves.

And then go around trying to twist the narrative in order to make it seem like the idols are proud of what of their doing and trying to promote to "young fans" or "mediaplay"

Of course,  I don't support this way of dieting, but the act of passive aggressively pointing fingers ewwww...the mindset is really ugly.

Anyways, I will say here the same thing I said about Jimin years ago when some fans and non-fans were ugly with Jimin too, I doubt it's just water. Most likely their eating supplements instead (similar to JYP the man diet during certain hours of the day) and they're not counting that as actual food.

agree. it's sad idols (well some celebs in general) become so obsessed with a perfect image of themselves.

If anyone is curious here are some people trying JYP diet. (I couldn't find the actual clip where he talks about it and teaches it to other idols on a variety show...perhaps it's blocked in my country now...idk)

JYP diet is basically filled with so MANY supplements to replace the lack of food. He barely eats breakfast and skips dinners to keep fit.

Here's a update from the first video - "I was full of energy ALL day, was super productive, and didn't snack as much as usual. I had a light lunch and a regular dinner but honestly didn't really feel hungry all day - this is likely due to the fact that this breakfast was about 600 calories. The stomach queasiness (from the olive oil) peaked around 2 hours later and then subsided."

Me too lmao, I thought they did it in one day

i haven't watched the actual behind the scene clip of butter yet, so i can't comment on what was actually said...

but if it's true they filmed it in five days, then they probably spread everything out instead of overworking and doing it all at in 1-2 day which is common for korean companies

back story: black swan mv. was the first time bighit/bts worked in the us. well specifically with western staff due to using a special venue. and there they learned about american work hours. the members were surprise that filming had to stop at certain time due to regulated work hours in the west. in korea kpop companies will literally film all day with little to no rest. meaning all the staff, camera men and more are being overworked too.

I doubt jungkook did this diet since he lost weight quickly and literally said that he « only drank water ». If he had food supplements he would have said he did a diet and he wouldn’t have said «for real I only drank water »

And to reply to your first answer, we know kpop has a lot of dark sides and fans like it when their faves are honest but that’s not a reason to share EVERYTHING. When you have lots of fans, especially young fans and easily influenced/impressionable, you should know that talking about you starving for days isn’t the smartest thing to do. Yes we know idols have to do unhealthy diet to lose weight quickly, but they don’t have to share it themselves. That will only encourage people to imitate them and this could easily lead to eating disorders. When you’re a #1 group you should also learn that your words hold a lot more power than you’d think and maybe try to be responsible. They have a big ass community following them, they should know that by now, come on.

i didn't say he did the exact diet. jyp at least ate lunch sometimes.  but it is very possible jungkook ate supplements which is what i said in my first comment.

i disagree. idols already hide so much about themselves. some stuff they don't have to, but they do so due to fear of being seen as unperfect by fans or worse. so when they mention or have slip ups like this it gives more insight about them. being the #1 group doesn't change my opinion either. that just an exscuse some people like to use to silence them, in my opinion.

All this Idols starving themselves to reach an unrealistic type of beauty. Every time there is a comeback all groups only talk about either diet,"becoming prettier", or how little they sleep. I think is better to ask why the company or the people like this certain image instead of blaming one person for trying to please their fans/company.
