What do you think of people who say they like Kpop but only know BTS and BlackPink

They are the normie fans and any fandom that wants to be kept alive need these type of people

They are very similar to people who say they:

-Love anime but only watched DBZ or Sailor Moon
-Love Marvel, but only watch the movies
-Love Soccer but only watches the World Cup
-Love boxing but only watches the Mayweather, Paquiao or Canelo fights

As much as a lot of people hate to admit it but we need to normies to fill in the concerts or events, there are more people in an event or concert that know BTS because they heards Dynamite on the radio while going to school than the ones that know why Coolio took the boys hostage

That's the reason many groups (especially from the 2nd and 3rd generation) didn't really took of in the west dispite trying, it means nothing if you are known to every single KPOP fan but not crowd (at least outside of Asia)

I feel like being a kpop stan involves waaay more than just knowing the 2 most popular groups or occasionally checking out whatever is at the top of the charts. Since Kpop itself is deeper than just music nowadays, it's almost like its own smaller culture.

And to be labelled a "stan" you prolly need to actually get invested a whole lot more,  otherwise you're just a casual listener, but that's just my opinion, don't wanna gatekeep too much lol

BTS and Blackpink ARE Kpop groups, but yeah it's kinda like "low hanging fruit". It's like being able to say you're a fan of a Kpop group by putting in the least amount of effort possible, especially if they only have BASIC knowledge of BTS and Blackpink, like they don't know anything pre-2018 from BTS.

Personally my only major gripe, as a Reveluv, is that these are usually the same type of "fans" or they have the same type of energy of people who want and expect all of Red Velvet's songs to be like Bad Boy/Psycho, and that is extremely annoying.

So do we call out people who call themselves kpop fans but likes only, say, stray kids? No pun intended. there's no pun I'm forgetful

They're not wrong for saying they're fans of something general even though they only like the currently most popular/trending things of it, one extra point if it's not popular or trending. It's okay as long as they don't think and act and speak like they know more than what they actually do.

That's literally just most fans.

But obviously is you ask a bunch of kpop super-nerds on a kpop forum what they think, of course they're gonna say they're "not real kpop fans" 😂

I don't know about Blackpink. There are a lot of old YG stans (and GG stans in general) who stan Blackpink also.

However in Bts case YES there are a lot of people who ONLY stan Bts. They usually say they're not Kpop fans tho. This is especially the case among the Western part of the fandom. It's very clear to see the community on twitter.

My thoughts overall? hmmm I don't really care personally lol. People can stan whoever they want.. ^^

Adding: There are some stans who of course know Bts are Korean and like their music...however when it comes to activities they care more about Western promotions...and could care less about them doing Korean activities. (e.g Korean variety shows, talk shows, photoshoots, radio, etc...)

Over the years I have been into Kpop I have known many people who have only stanned one group like SNSD or GOT7. BTS and BP solo stans are no different. They are all Kpop fans because the groups are all Kpop groups. Numbers are not the same but the music style is.

To me they’re not kpop stans. It’s like people saying they like alternative rock but only know.. idk let’s say muse. Imagine the conversation between that muse fan who calls himself an alternative rock fan and another alternative rock fan:

A : hi! So you like alternative rock?

B : oh yes! I love this music genre

A : cool! Which bands do you like?

B : I only know Muse.

A : 🤡

Same thing with bts and bp stans who only know these 2 groups. If there is a kpop magazine would they buy it? No. Because they’re only interested in bts or bp so they would buy a special edition. Whereas kpop stans would be happy to buy the kpop magazine with several groups in it.

They are still kpop fans, but only bts and bp fans for now. I say the same as the people above, they miss out on a lot of cool music. And it's a pity too cause bp isn't famous for having frequent comebacks, so they must have a lot of patience. I have my ults too, but i still listen to other groups, because there is only so much discography one group makes and the vast amount of material there is besides these two groups will be enticing for them imo. First maybe they'll start with txt and treasure, labelmates of these groups, then maybe other groups who have comebacks the same time as their faves and so on. So they could be considered future ''kpop stans''.

I see things like calling Kpop fans who are not BTS fans called k-poppies as if it’s something bad and it leaves me scratching my head because BTS is a k-pop group.

Other than that maybe they only stan those groups, but listen to others casually, so they only see themselves as BTS/Blackponk fans.
