JO1's Kono Junki
They said he was the most popular in Korea (but turns out he's not that popular)

They also say that the way he speaks Japanese sounds like a Korean speaking Japanese...(I don't speak Japanese so I'm not sure about this)

original post: here

1. He kind of looks like an NCT or The Boyz member in that first gif

2. Oh for real ㅋㅋㅋㅋ he kinda has that fox-type look...

3. I can understand why they said that he sounds like a Korean speaking Japanese ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

4. Japanese doesn't really have any nasal sound so he sounds like a Korean.  I can also understand why his looks are considered Korean too ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

5. He's pretty handsome

6.Hul is this for real??ㅋㅋ

7. As expected, I knew it was about Junki

8. I thought he was Korean at first ㅋㅋ

9. The Boyz-type face

10. Oh he seriously looks Korean.  Even his Japanese sounds Korean

11. Oh seriously, the way he speaks Japanese sounds like a Korean who's good at speaking Japanese ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

12. He totally looks Korean

I was kinda suspecting it was gonna be about Junki. Even during produce japan I always thought he looked very Korean.

I wouldn't be surprised if he had some Korean ancestry or was even a zainichi Korean. There's another member in JO1 (Kinjo Sukai) that kinda looks Korean sometimes too, imo.

Wouldn't surprise me, either. Actor Shota Matsuda of Hana Yori Dango is also of Zainichi Korean descent but you wouldn't know for sure unless you looked him up.

They didn't. All that was talked about in the video linked was that since debuting he's been unable to make any friends because he's always hanging around with his co-members. You can type the Korean subtitles on the screen into Google Translate if you know how to type Korean to see for yourself.

i think the "they" OP is referring to is just the same ambiguous "they" used for "they said he's the most popular in korea," i.e. the japanese people in the title who claim he looks korean.  they're just making a vague generalization about some comments made by japanese fans, not referring to the contents of the video.  the video is providing an example of him speaking

I heard alot of J-celebs are Zainichi or have korean mixed blood (like half-korean, half-japanese for example). Most of them just don't disclose it to the public until much later when they're comfortable. There's also Koreans who immigrated to Japan  who have assimilated to Japanese culture and identity through marriages or by forced/pressure way back in the past, so the descendants have no idea about their Korean heritage. I remember reading some Jnetz comments about how they actually know that they're actually Koreans or half-Koreans but won't tell their friends or anyone outside their families fearing the potential racism they'd face and some even have internalized racism. Also Zainichi Koreans in Japan are divided into two groups the pro-DPRK and non pro-DPRK.
