Hello, hope everyone is well.

I have a question. I am alright with reading journal articles, but book chapters from textbooks are a bit difficult for me because it seems like there are no parts or sections that you can skip or skim through. to me, if feels like every sentence is an important point that i have to remember and so its a bit overwhelming and exhausting.

I also have time constraints so i can't take too long reading them. each chapter is 30 pages long and in the past it took me one whole day to read one chapter. i need advice on how i can read book chapters fast and efficiently. Thank you so much.

Im not sure it will work for you too, but something I did when I had lots of readings to do was to split it into parts. I find it easier that way. You can read different parts of you chapter at different time or even on different days. It makes it less overwhelming than reading everything in one go. And reading a new part of you chapter helps you remember what you read before too.

And the time and place were also crucial for me. Find the time at which you are the most productive and when you can focus the best. It might be in the morning or on the evening, its different for each person. And find the place you feel the most at ease to study. It might be you room, the library, a coffee shop,..

Well usually what you can do is studying topic beforehand from an easier medium be it a summary book or slide show or something. Then while reading chapters you won't have concern of learning the whole topic, you will rather learn the details from it. It's also useful to have post it's and page markers ready, as you, despite what feels like, don't need every page and you can instead note down important parts to post it.

Skim through the page as fast as you can while understanding/absorbing what you read and then use a highlighter to highlight the important points. Afterwards after you're done with all the chapters, you can come back, revise and re-read the highlighted parts. By repeating this, you will remember the information and points.
