Big Hit Music Comments On The Report That BTS Will Enlist In The Military Together In 2022

Big Hit Music has made their response to a financial analyst’s prediction that BTS would enlist together in 2022, stating they have no comment.

Big Hit Music made their statement to media outlet Tenasia, and stated that they do not have any comment to share about BTS’s military enlistment.

We have nothing further to say about their military enlistment besides what our artist has already said. We ask for your understanding.

— Big Hit Music

Back in 2020 when BTS released their album BE, Jin mentioned that he would be ready to enlist in the military whenever the nation calls him to do so.

As a young South Korean, military service is a natural thing to do. If the nation calls me to do my military service, I will respond whenever that time is.

— Jin

Back in December 2020, the Ministry of Defense approved an amendment to the Military Service Act, allowing K-Pop artists who have received a decoration of cultural merit from the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism to delay their enlistment up until the age of 30. If BTS is considered eligible for the deferment, the group’s eldest member Jin will be able to postpone his enlistment until 2022.

everyone's always asking why no groups do this, it would be a good move for them if their personal situations actually allow for it

BTS can easily survive a two year break, and I can only imagine how hyped their grand comeback would be

It's not even 2 years but 1.5 years, lol. I'm sure most groups have gone on hiatus longer than this.

i think it's a really good idea for them to enlist all at once.... wouldn't it take around 7 years (idk i can't do maths) for them to all be back together at the same time if they did it separately and waited til right before they absolutely had to enlist?

This would be a smart move. Enlist together, the better and the hiatus period would lesser. If they all enlist together in any of the active duty division, the enlistment period would just be around a year and a half, so the hiatus wouldn't be that long. If they go for non-active duty like public service, police unit, etc it will be 2 years but then even 2 years hiatus would still be nothing to a group as big as BTS. By the time they get discharged, they'll be even bigger because hiatus will make the heart grow fonder.  As long as they don't mess up or cut corners while serving the country which would get them in big trouble and the public turning their backs on them. What happened to the seniors who messed up big time in the past should set a precedent and lesson for the current and younger idols to be careful and not repeat the same mistakes. I don't think BTS members would be that dumb to risk the rep they build all these years.

The younger members enlist early would get praised for not delaying until they turn 30 years. Plus enlisting together means they are emphasizing on collectivism which is considered a good praiseworthy trait according to Koreans.

Tbh that's actually very smart because they'll be done in 1.5 years and return to their group activities again instead of waiting for the members to enlist and return one by on that could take years. In fact idk why more groups don't do that.

right

scattered hiatuses would be worse for a group with their image imo

as much as I'd miss them if they all went together, I think that's the best move tbh. Less time total before they can perform together. If they go separately it could be years before they consistently promote as a full group again.

1.5 years isn't bad, but from a business standpoint I am not sure if Big Hit will take this approach.

right

for most labels the best method is to delay enlistment until the members are older and less marketable, focus their efforts on a newer, younger group, and then milk the solo careers of discharged members until they outgrow the company

BTS very well may be a special case though because they just hold that much power

so.. that's like a confirmation right?  That's always how BH confirms things.

well, this is a bit different. since BH always release a statement when there are popular unofficial articles spreading about Bts enlistment. BH constantly have to reinforce that the decision will be up to the members - which they've mention here again too.

basically members have said they will go when they're called to. not all of the members will necessarily receive their letter in 2022.

it will be interesting to see what they do. of course their decision will be based on what the group and individuals want to.
