Nine Muses, Rainbow, and Dal Shabet: K-pop's slept on holy trinity

What I find more regretful than nugu groups are groups who stood in an ambiguous position, they're popular enough to not be called unknown but at the same time, not popular enough to be called successful...

Dal Shabet's popularity during their rookie years was crazy. Anyone at that time would've thought they would be a top girl group in the future. However, for a controversy that is no way caused by the members, their road to success was blocked. When other members left, Dal Shabet restarted as a four-member group and just when everyone thought they'll get better results, nothing happened.

With DSP's impressive track record of hit girl groups such as Fin.K.L., Rainbow gained a lot of attention though not during their debut. Their first comeback, A, was a complete hit followed by a few more hit songs. Unfortunately, changes of personnel in their company led to the demise of not just Rainbow but all DSP groups in general. Though their 2013 comebacks considerably didn't do bad, the group had more than a year of hiatus and during that time, ultimately fell under the radar.

Still striking me as one of the most regrettable girl groups of all time, Nine Muses were on their way to success. Were. With their debut being a complete failure, Nine Muses already faced a lineup change right at the beginning. Due to their hard work, their music started being recognized and their hard work has finally bore fruit with "News" being a successful single. Right when they're on the rise in January 2013, the group saw no rise in fame and has felt another decline with three vital members leaving. Adding two new members, everyone though they're bound to failure but surprisingly, their comeback as 8 stirred attention and is considerably successful. Sadly it ended there and despite one member holding on to keep the group alive from 2010-2017, Nine Muses have disbanded.

The worst yet the best part is I stan these three girl groups. I'm regretful of how their careers panned out but I'm grateful for their performances and music.

Also, fuck you Happy Face for some things including wanting Serri to get breast surgery, fuck you DSP for not pushing Rainbow when they could've hit big in Korea, and fuck you Star Empire for every damn thing.

been on a 9Muses spree these days and I honestly am livid because they are so fucking slept on!

Same!!! Ever since Dolls started to become somewhat viral, I started watching a few Namyu videos and with Youtube's algorithm, almost all my recommended videos are now about them...

Funny you mentioned them together because apparently NaDalRain was a phrase that Knetz came up with, where you had these girl groups that charted well and the public knew of them somewhat, but weren't considered successful or didn't win music shows. The phrase was an anagram of these three exact groups lol. I miss all of them as well!

9muses just kept releasing banger after banger but it barely got them anywhere. Their 2013 is still the greatest year by any kpop group.

I was not as high on Rainbow's music but Whoo was a fantastic release and I love how well the group gets along.

Dal Shabet also just got better towards the end and Serri is an awesome performer

Rainbow's music is still one of my favorite to this day! I know people love their spunkier/sexier songs but my personal faves were always the brighter ones like Sunshine and Tell Me Tell Me.

Wonder if there's going to be a 3rd generation equivalent of these 3 in the future, I can think of a few groups but I don't want to doom them to eternal ambiguity 😰

Don't know much about DalShabet but I totally agree about Rainbow and 9 muses. And at least Rainbow had some hits with the public like A, but 9 muses' discography was totally slept on (they charted decently but they never had a proper hit). I'll never understand how a group that had both great visuals and bop after bop didn't make it.

The most slept on are Bestie and Stellar, because people wouldn't even mention them (beyond the sexualisation).

What happened there? Happyface Ent (now Dreamcatcher Company) seems to treat Dreamcatcher pretty well. Maybe they learnt from their past mistakes?

the absolute insanity that they gave these bops all in 2013

Nine Muses really delivered in 2013.

Honestly, with Nine Muses, wrong company policies and marketing has a huge role in their failure... I saw their documentary and was astonished to see how the CEO and some staff were so destructive on the girls' self-esteem. I mean, on stage, how can they give off an aura that they were robbed of?

Remember that the documentary came early in their career. From what I understand the blowback from it caused Star Empire to change out their management of the group. One of their former managers is still close with the girls to this day.

Even the CEO went to Sungah's wedding
