No1 6,262
I don't fast for religious reasons, but I do intermittent fasting for health reasons. Usually 18/6, which means fasting for 18 hours and having a 6 hour window to eat. From my experience, since this is your first time doing it, feeling hungry is normal. The body needs more than a couple days to adapt to a fast. I don't know how long Suhoor lasts, or what restrictions there are, but something fibrous will help you feel full for longer. I eat oatmeal with (natural, homemade) yogurt and a few nuts first, and drink a lot of water. I have a normal meal a two or three hours later, and that is enough to keep me going. darkchocohoney 752
usually I just have whatever I cooked for iftar but I'll always make sure to eat 3 dates too
felidae 2,742
You're good. Eat anything you can comfortably eat. I usually eat whatever I cook/buy for iftar. If there's nothing to eat instant noodles, egg, oatmeal, or breads with a cup of milk would do. Sometimes when I wake up too late I'd only have cups of hot/warm water and iron supplements. Not recommended at all. Sahoor is a form of praying too don't miss it. I hope we all can endure whole month in ease. Don't drink acidic food for iftar if you only eat very small portion (and not really healthy) of food for sahoor especially if you have gastric problem! Unless you want to cancel your fasting two days in a row

No1 6,262
Just now, lighterxx said: Bit OOT but which time period felt best for you? I want to try fasting for health reasons and idk where to start My messed up sleeping patterns sometimes get in the way of my schedule, but the time that works for me is from noon to 8pm. I made a mistake on my last post, it's 16/8, not 18/6 (damnit dyslexia!). Although I sometimes do 20/4. It is meant to give me enough leeway to eat my meals on times to socialize when others also eat, and allow me to prepare for bed without impediment. The point is just to start. Know that when you do, the first week or so is absolutely gonna suck balls. You're gonna feel hungry all the time, get pregnant lady level of cravings and you might even feel a bit out of it, but once your body adapts, it actually feels awesome. It's gonna take time, but if you stick to it, the results will definitely show. Make sure your meals are balanced and healthy, and if you wanna add exercise to your regimen, then it's best that you talk to your doctor to ensure you do so in a safe way. I've lost 12kg some 8 months after I started, and although I still wanna lose a few more, I'm more worried about maintaining a healthy weight rather than obsessing on losing it. It's been a year and a half, and my weight barely fluctuates, mostly due to water weight and normal body fucntions. Also, don't punish yourself for falling off the wagon here and there. I still eat my burgers and pizza and junk food; it's all part of it. If you wanna talk more about it, then feel free to PM me. 1
