surprised no one has wondered about gidle’s future with this new girlgroup because when aespa debuted they were all over how it was to replace red velvet after irene’s scandal.

hopefully chowon is there, i’ve heard rumors she had switched companies.

i think it's mostly because sm has a habit of abandoning their groups right after a new one debuts. and it's even more evident for their girl groups. so at this point, it's just tradition and the irene scandal probably upped the chances that rv's activities as a group are eventually going to simmer down to one comeback a year, or even more sparse for activities. at this point in their career, it's natural for them to venture off into solo activities and release a studio album a year like exo, but her scandal probably made the future seem a bit murky for a brief time.

while in cube's case, this would be their 4th girl group. clc debuted at an appropriate time, six years after 4minute, and they would debut a year prior to 4minute's disbandment. gidle debuted three years later after clc, which is a bit early. but seeing how cube put out so many comebacks within the time span and nothing worked out for clc, it just seemed better to take the chance to utilize soyeon's hype before it was too late. and even with gidle being a lot more profitable, it wasn't like cube stopped giving comebacks to clc. but by the end of 2020, elkie left and even said that cube seemed to have put a hold on clc's future, which kind of seems like they'll be disbanding soon, or be put on hiatus.

I'm surprised most CLC/G-idle fans seem to be pretty excited with the group too instead of the typical "care for your current artists" complains. I think it's because everyone was waiting for Chowon and Joohyun to debut already, especially Chowon that has a lot of supporters since pd48 (plus she was literally rigged out in pd48 so more reasons for people to support her debut).

sadly I wouldn't be surprised if this happened. Like you said, they've constantly given clc comebacks but they still don't even have a breakout song in Korea so there's not much more they can do for them. Sometimes a group simply don't click with the public for X reason despite having quality comebacks and music.
