It was recently reported that BTS's label HYBE has acquired Ithaca Holdings, the company behind big names like Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande.

According to a press release on April 2, HYBE is officially merging with Ithaca Holdings, which is a media and entertainment investment company founded by Scooter Braun. The deal states that HYBE will buy all shares of Ithaca Holdings for 1.70 Trillion KRW (USD 1.5 billion) to shareholders and bondholders, acquiring Ithaca Holdings. This means Ithaca Holdings will become a subsidiary of HYBE America. cr.

1. [+191, -1] We really don't know where the end of all this is. Keep going until you get there! Fighting!

2. [+64, -7] So comparable to SM, who only cares about that China money. I support Big Hit for their success in the American market and JYP for their success in the Japanese market.

3. [+35, -6] Just have to watch out for the Chinese investment risks

4. [+17, -1] Proud of them!!!!!

5. [+20, -8] Big Hit feels like they're in too much of a rush

6. [+11, -0] BTS is past the point of a flash in the pan star. They have taken place as legends in history. I'm just worried about China somehow trying to take all the credit.

7. [+6, -0] How far will Bang Shi Hyuk go??? I just hope he doesn't forget that BTS was the foundation for all of this~~~

8. [+4, -0] Daebak

1. [+98, -1] Amazing of HYBE for growing globally beyond our imaginations 👍 I support BTS for being the blood, sweat, and tears behind this growth.

2. [+37, -0] So Bieber and Ariana Grande will be subsidiaries to Big Hit (in the US) and be managed under them, damn

3. [+38, -3] They're getting bigger and bigger. I'll always support you, BTS.

4. [+22, -0] Wow... how far are they going to go

5. [+13, -0] BTS is worth an amazing amount

6. [+6, -1] Look how different an agency is run when it's run by someone with a Seoul University degree

7. [+5, -0] Wow, daebak! BTS and Big Hit, the best! I hope this gives more room for BTS to spread their wings and enables them to hold all the concerts they want!

8. [+4, -0] Anyone think Big Hit is overextending themselves? cr.

because some people can't process what's happening, so they're mind is defaulting to media play...similar to how some ifans/iarmys thought it this was an april fools joke 😅

Now can we have bts and ariana collab right away

Also these comments shading SM and companies for focusing on China 💀 Netizens really hate them. And their love for America is really showing lol

True. Tho the shade isn't random. LSM was the one to make the claim a month ago that China is the future for Kpop. Also he's pissed off some knetz with some of his comments about SM in general.

Also Koreans have never been afraid to show their preference for America then China. I mean, they're not the only country to do so.

Daaaang if Scooter hadn't sold Taylor Swift's masters, HYBE could have potentially owned them (bc Ithaca bought them).

from r/popheads: "From my understanding, Shamrock Investments owns Taylor's catalog and Scooter will continue to profit from it. I think her masters being owned by Big Machine according to the copyright credit is just by name now and they don't actually own it anymore. But I could be wrong so take my word with a grain of salt."

when I said Ithaca bought them I mean originally. Scooter purchased them through Ithaca Holdings and then sold them to Shamrock (affiliated with Disney)

I don't know anything. I was more so posting that for your opinion, if it was true. So I guess it is true base on your answer o.o

fyi -

  • Ithaca Holdings LLC's revenues were $131,727,000, operating profit was $16,157,000 and EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) was $22,278,000 in 2020. cr.
  • For comparison, BigHit’s 2020 revenue was $717 million, 85% of which was from BTS (around $600m+). So revenue from BTS alone outsold the entire Ithaca more than four times over. cr.
