Article: What to do about Shinsegye... Chinese netizens pass around links due to 'Jackson controversy'

Source: Kukmin Ilbo via Naver

Jackson showed his support for Xinjiang cotton causing Shinsegye, the mall he models for, to remove his picture from their Instagram. Chinese netizens are now flooding the brand for unfair treatment of the star.

1. [+2,577, -4] Can the Chinese please stop trying so hard to become celebrities and please take your nationalism back to your country and go be celebrities there

2. [+721, -9] If you're in a foreign country to make your money, please stay quiet during your duration there. Go talk about your Xinjiang cotton back in your own country. The entire world is boycotting it so why are you acting like this in our country?

3. [+658, -10] Did the Chinese netizens forget all they did to Lee Hyori for nicknaming herself Mao? And now they're accusing us of unfair treatment against Jackson just for taking down his picture because he supports the forced slavery of Uyghurs? ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

4. [+599, -4] I no longer want Chinese celebrities working in Korea

5. [+276, -6] So why in the world did you hire a Chinese

6. [+95, -2] Wow... he posted in support of China during the Hong Kong protests too... If his contract with JYP is over, he should go to China and never come back. I cannot stand seeing anyone who supports a country that violates the human rights of other countries like Myanmar anymore.

7. [+89, -0] No more Chinese idols when making idol groups. They're all causing scandals and backstabbing their companies. Do they not realize what making such political statements as a public figure will cause?

8. [+75, -0] Please just kick out all Chinese celebrities from our country. China has been blocking all Korean stars with THAAD and anti-Hallyu movements, what are we doing using Chinese celebrities for? There are tons of Korean trainees with pretty faces and enough talent.

9. [+35, -0] Didn't they take down Lisa's photoshoot too? ㅋㅋㅋ So it's okay if they do it but not okay if we do it? ㅋㅋㅋ All the Chinese celebrities in our country better screw off, and take your trainees with you

10. [+32, -0] I thank the heavens that BTS and Black Pink do not have Chinese members..

Wait, so it's okay for them to cancel heaven and earth but when it's done to them it's not okay???? Lol 🤣 Western companies have every right to cancel their work relationship with someone that supports the violation of human rights.

The audacity of him to post his stance against anti-Asian hate but yet he supports ccp's propaganda and abuse towards Uyghurs. Not to mention, as a Hong Kong citizen he has no empathy towards his fellow Hong Kong people during the Hong Kong protest and bows down to the ccp. And then he has all these western collabs and gigs and not to mention, he wants to have a solo career and activities in SK so bad.  This guy is so fake, phony, hypocritical and not genuine. He's greedy and business-minded and only does things for his own selfish gains. Unlike other Chinese celebs, he's a position where he can choose either a career in China or outside China but no he wants them all and has no humanity in him. Good on Shinsegye for dropping and not supporting him

sometimes I really get interested in the chinese entertainment and want to listen to some songs and stan some idols, but when things like this happen I get so pissed, why does every single chinese celebrity has to support and agree to all those awful things that government does? ugh

Back in the day, it was considered very beneficial if companies put Chinese idols in kpop groups, as they will bring in alot of fans and sales and not to mention tours around Asia especially China. But nowadays especially seeing the recent issues, having Chinese members especially if they're pro-CCP who are violating human rights is just gonna create more mess and tensions. At this rate it seems all of Chinese idols and celebs are pro-CCP including those from Hong Kong who are pro-CCP. No doubt they're obviously supporting communist propaganda since they were young.

I definitely cannot support these people who think genocide and ethnic cleansing are okay. I can understand Koreans' perspective too in the tensions between Korea and China recently for example some recent kdramas that try to distort Korean history by putting in some Chinese elements. The Chinese propaganda is slowing creeping in.

I don't understand how Jackson can support the labor of Uyghurs and then promote in the west like nothing's wrong. Dude... have some shame

not even just that. he was out here showing support for stop Asian hate and then he pulls this shit. if there were ever any doubts about him this should tell everyone who he really is.

hypocrite, greedy, two face, traitor and shameless. I hope he gets called out and all his shit gets put on blast tbh.

I wonder if this is making agencies second guess putting Chinese members in their groups. First it was the South China Sea dispute, then it was the Hong Kong protests, then celebrating the Chinese soldiers who died in the Korean War and now this. It's honestly becoming a problem.

But companies still wants chinese trainees bc they want c fans money or some future percentage of chinese activities money.

Question is: money or honor?

By the way, just to clear up obvious misconceptions in this thread, he’s denying that Uyghurs are being mistreated at all, not defending it. Chinese citizens are under the belief that everything is fine and the camps are just for re-educating extremists (which is a whole other thing because that’s still cultural genocide). It’s the west that is releasing false propaganda to harm the Chinese economy, and cotton harvesting in Xinjiang has already been automated so no human labour is used.

Anyway I’m still waiting for all these corpos boycotting Xinjiang cotton to boycott all the other materials made through human rights abuses. China’s not the only place doing it.

Edit: lmao can’t even say “China bad” in an accurate way because the illiterates would rather pat themselves on the back than be informed

I never would have thought things would turn out like this with Jackson. I stopped being a got7 fan awhile ago for other reasons but at the time he was one of my favorite members. He has no soul to be okay with doing things like this. I'm beyond disgusted still even after finding out about this last week.

I am however glad to see companies take some initiative and are dropping people.

The CCP are using their money to exert more soft power into korean entertainment which is also popular with the world. I had already boycotted the entire chinese industry (cause realistically all chinese celebs = CCP mouthpieces) and for political reasons i can not support any chinese idols being added in kpop, but with korean dramas being sinicized and drowned with chinese PPL, now its up to the korean people themselves to speak up (and lately they have)

even in southeast asia, there seems to be some efforts to ramp up interest in Chinese entertainment. It probably has had some effect in Vietnam (they've been brutalized by chinese culture all their lives, so of course they would gravitate to it) and Indonesia (huge population), but everywhere else i think its a flop!

if anybody knows how bad it is in china, everyone is under constant surveillance, constant censorship, no free speech, no rule of law, etc. its just a million times worse for the ethnic minorities cause right now they have a culture that china wants to actively erase.

They even made up a fake french reporter to deny claims of genocide in their own state run media. CCP lies all the time that i wouldn't even trust them if they said there was a sale at walmart!! The truth is not allowed to be told in China. We can't let this go on by supporting Chinese idols.

Even your beloved Ms Hua can only go as far as 70% automated in harvesting cotton but u hv the shame to claim it all automatic, "NO HUMAN LABOUR IS USED"? So the other 30% are AI?

And most importantly, nobody believed the number from your gov.

Exhibit A: person who can’t read the words “Chinese citizens are under the belief” and “China’s not the only place doing it”. Point at the part where I say that I think no human labour is used.

All I’m trying to do is elaborate on the situation and point out that people like Jackson are just denying slavery, not defending it. But OHers are so fucking trigger happy they start frothing at the mouth over the mere implication that the Chinese are seeing a different truth than they are and aren’t just a bunch of awful monsters who think slavery is okay.

And also point out that this is a good time to call out those companies and get them to pull manufacturing out of all those other places with human rights abuses, but apparently that’s not okay either.

Well fuck me for trying. I’ll just leave you to stew in your moral and racial superiority then.

Well, i only wanted to point out your lie about "NO HUMAN LABOUR IS USED" n how stupid that statement sound when u want to use that to back your claim.

I know Jackson is doing that out of his own belief n i actually keep telling OHers here that he didn't do any of those propaganda out of fear or being forced.

Say it louder to intl' fans. YOUR OPPA DID ALL THOSE PROPAGANDA OUT OF HIS OWN WILL N BELIEFS. SUPPORT HIM OR NOT, HE AIN'T FORCED.

The point is that I never claimed that no human labour was used! Read! It was always a statement made under the assumption that it’s CCP propaganda! I literally confirm that China uses human labour!

People on this hell website don’t even read and then act all morally superior because being blindly enraged is their default setting.

Lie again!

Your first para. started with "by the way" then ended with "so no human labour is used"

U could have at least edited your previous comment to make it less ridiculous.

Stay in school, kids 😉

Not to worry though, you’re not the only one. Most OHers can’t read either.

you could phrase your response a bit better though

I get what you're trying to say and I do agree that a lot of celebs feel as though there isn't an issue and china is being attacked for no reason but your post did make it sound like you were saying there's zero forced labour

Noted. Moving forward I will phrase all my sentences to accommodate the first grade reading level of this website.

Meanwhile the other person coming at me has the writing abilities of a blind toddler but that apparently isn’t an issue and I just have to interpret that nonsense.
