"Kpop"

A.) Mainly idol music (boy/girl groups) and a few known idol soloist (e.g. IU, Jessie, etc). Basically, the idol industry. Music and artists that tend to be popular with ifans. Hallyu Wave.

B.) Apply the definition of pop to Korea's overall music scene. Go beyond the idol industry. In this case, there are way more songs and artists in Korea that can fall under the category. Similar to how pop is viewed in the West.

C. None of the Above/Other

"Pop"

A.)  Popular music/Mainstream/Charting

B.) Basic, repeated choruses and catchy hooks with rhythms/tempos that can be easily danced to. Borrows elements from other styles such as rock, urban, dance, Latin, and country.

A and B for me.

I see kpop as catchy, manufactured music that borrows from various other genres and is sung primarily by boy/girl groups and some soloists with primarily ethnic Korean members, produced by Korean entertainment companies and who have gone through the Korean training system.

I see pop as catchy, manufactured music, with the occasional singer-songwriter (Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran etc...). It borrows from other genres, It's easy to digest and has mainstream appeal.

for k-pop, a. idol music

for pop, i don't know... genres cross over so much nowadays that it's hard for me to actually identify what they are. i've always had trouble with it. what separates pop-rap from regular rap? or country pop from regular country? some examples are obvious, and some are not.
