I understand why he did this — I’m empathetic towards it. If he didn’t, it would make his life and that of his family dramatically complicated. I don’t blame him.

But it’s still jarring to see it.

And as far as the CCP and their whatabout-isms with the US and slavery, and the EU and the holocaust, it’s just more fucking bullshit from a bullshit ideology, and a half-baked economic and political doctrine that would make Marx and Mao roll over in their graves.

Yes, the United States practiced slavery, yes — Germany industrialized mass murder. But you will find no one in mainstream society that will excuse it.

Celebrities who had been ignoring ccp propaganda all these yrs r still living well n earning that rmb fine in china. Only those who bravely, openly n actively being a human right activist against the regime r putting their life at risk. Jackson is nowhere like those true heroes.

U have the right to continue supporting him all u want but please stop this oppa sacrificing himself to protect his family ideology to protect the image of an accomplice. It would be even better if u could share a fraction of ur sympathy from Jackson to the real victims of ccp.

No — I think people have been dunking on me because I didn’t elaborate.

I don’t support him, I don’t agree with any celebrity that’s willing to turn a blind eye to this.

What I meant to say was that I understand why they did it — even if I don’t support it. People are asking themselves why they would do this, and the answer is pretty simple:

1.) They’re public figures in China, and the government of China is far more inclined to let you be a public figure if you tow the line.

2.) Despite the cynicism, it will put their families under deep scrutiny.

So no, I don’t support them — I don’t agree with them, and I don’t even like them at this point. But I empathize with them in the sense that I understand why they did what they did.

I can’t look at them the same way, but I understand their motives.

My respond to ur comment is not about whether u support him or not; it's actually about ur point 1.

He is a public figure but he is not THE ONLY public figure there. There r MANY public figures who actually DON'T follow, coorperate with ccp propanganda BUT STILL earning their money there (n obviously they r still living).

Ur previous comment make it sound like EVERY public figures have to do what that guy do to live in China n to earn that rmb there but NO, IT IS NOT TRUE.

And one more thing, among those who constantly cooperated with ccp propaganda, Jackson is one of the MOST passionate kind. He ain't force; he did it on his own will n he is proud of that. This is the point I want to make.

Whether he believes in all of that communist nonsense is really beside the point — he’s got plenty of incentive to indulge in it whether his motivation is personal or public.

I just wanted to clarify: I don’t support him, I’m not making excuses for him, I simply understand that he has plenty of motive.

I’m not even a fan, so — I wouldn’t lose much by ignoring his existence.
