The Biden administration is restricting the information Border Patrol agents and sector chiefs can share with the media as a surge of migrants tests the agency's capacity at the southern border, according to four current and two former Customs and Border Protection officials.

The officials say the restrictions are seen as an unofficial "gag order" and are often referred to that way among colleagues. The officials requested anonymity because they are not authorized to speak to the media about the topic.

Border Patrol officials have been told to deny all media requests for "ride-alongs" with agents along the southern land border; local press officers are instructed to send all information queries, even from local media, to the press office in Washington for approval; and those responsible for cultivating data about the number of migrants in custody have been reminded not to share the information with anyone to prevent leaks, the officials said.

Multiple news organizations, including NBC News, have requested access to or photos from inside overcrowded border processing facilities holding unaccompanied migrant children; they have been denied. The DHS press office released one photo late Tuesday of a mother and child undergoing a health screening inside a border facility, but no wider shots to show conditions or sleeping arrangements.

Democrat President Joe Biden is reportedly putting migrant children in detention facilities that resemble prisons and is separating the children for weeks on end — both issues that Democrats and the media used to attack former President Donald Trump during Trump’s presidency.

“The number of unaccompanied migrant children detained along the southern border has tripled in the last two weeks to more than 3,250, filling facilities akin to jails as the Biden administration struggles to find room for them in shelters,” The New York Times reported. “The children are being held in facilities, managed by the Customs and Border Protection agency, that were built for adults. The border agency has been the subject of widespread criticism for the horrific conditions in its federal detention facilities, in which children are exposed to disease, hunger and overcrowding.”

The news comes after Axios reported late last week that the Biden administration was allowing the facilities to operate at 100% capacity to meet the demand of the huge surge in illegal immigration taking place on the southern border. The centers were previously allowed to only operate at 50% capacity to adhere to social distancing guidelines.

USA Today reported over the weekend that Biden was “still sheltering children separated from close family members in federal facilities for weeks on end — something immigrant advocates and attorneys had hoped the new administration would resolve by now.” The report noted in its headline that children were being “being separated from relatives for weeks” under Biden.

Photographs from inside one of the Biden administration’s border detention facilities in Texas showed hundreds of migrants, including many children, locked up in “pods” designed to at least give the appearance of trying to take the coronavirus pandemic seriously.

“Each of eight ‘pods’ in the so-called soft-sided facility has a 260-person occupancy, said Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas), who provided the photos to Axios to raise awareness about the situation,” Axios reported. “But as of Sunday, he said, one pod held more than 400 unaccompanied male minors.”

The facility that the photos were leaked from was the Rio Grande Valley Sector (RGV), which has reportedly started to release illegal aliens into the U.S. without a scheduled court date, according to Fox News and Axios. The New York Times has reported that the facilities that the migrant children have been kept in are “akin to jails” and that they have been subjected to “horrific conditions” that include “disease, hunger and overcrowding.”

Awful situation regardless which party is in power.

The short term solution is increasing the staff numbers to process the migrants faster so they don’t suffer waiting, —ffs some of them are children who have even families here they simply want to reunite with—, and tougher anti-illegal crossings rhetoric to slow down their arrival.

Anti-illegal immigration used to be a bipartisan issue, most Americans support it, it protects illegal immigrants from exploitative people who blackmail them into servitude, and it actually helps legal immigrants and American-born citizens to compete in the workplace with fair market wages. No one benefits form illegal immigration but the criminals who exploit them (crack down on them too) and woke twitter who just wants to sound holier than thou.

The long term solution is invest in the countries they come from to improve their living conditions so they don’t need to immigrate. This is more difficult, but nobody deserves this suffering.
