Seeing all the idols' scandals, i don't think Idol music will regain the public recognition it once had

idol music was huge especially before 2010. back then we used to see the top 10 songs in top 10 were idol songs for example

it's still huge  but technically speaking only a couple of groups can chart well nowdays and with the chart reformation, it's getting harder even for girl groups.

Groups had and still can have massive hits but number wise it's not like before and it keeps getting worse a year after year

you can see this in the end of year charts when top 10 or 20 is mostly of ballads/soloists and old songs

this happened due to several reasons like  the saturation of the industry and such

but seeing all the scandals attached to idols that have been going on recently  and not just 2021, i don't think idol music will be strong again among the general public.

even dating news no longer have that strong impact anymore

i didnt expect it to be strong again, we left behind the era of kpop groups, now whoever hits biggest, will fully depend on luck. Koreans love the idea of audience power, they hate current groups having int fanbase, while fandoms love the idea. Whatever happens now, will depend on fandoms not public impression.

I have an assumption that this is somewhat orchestrated.

Some people/groups might be bribing/convincing online accusers and other celebrities to pin down other rising celebrities so that the accusation becomes so prevalent, time will come when people will no longer care about past issues.

These accusations have cost the industry a lot of money. From CF pullouts, actor replacements... money invested in these projects are no joke, so one scandal can hurt an entire brand, movie, or show. It makes sense that industry insiders will put in money to numb and tire the Korean public from these scandals, especially considering how petty some can be and how far back in the past the allegations come from.

other non-idol celebrities, politicians and known rich businessmen in korea are problematic too and have done worse.

therefor i'm not going to generalize, since it's still possible for some idols (or songs) to gain public recognition.

however i do think companies are moving more towards targeting stans and building fandoms rather than focusing so much on the public.

I think idol music had 2 peaks: roughly 2008-2012 and then 2015-2018 but after that the public just don't seem interested in finding out new idols because the few established ones (BTS, Blackpink, Twice, RV, Mamamoo, etc) are still at their prime and the market is too saturated for the GP to care to check out more idols. At most they pay attention to some rising rookies, specially girl groups like G-idle, ITZY, Aespa, etc but that's all. But like you said nowadays it's even hard for ggs to make a name unless they're lucky to have a viral hit like Brave Girls now.

I guess idol music will eventually find a new peak when the strongest 3rd gen idols start to slow down, but like satoori said, companies seem more interested in targeting fandoms nowadays than appealing the GP anyway.

Post 2018...i don't think the GP has an interest in general in the kpop idol industry..they only care about the really popular ones..like BTS, EXO, Twice, BP, IU, OMG, MMM etc.. unless once in the blue moon a bop goes viral..like Brve Girls Rollin or ikon's Love Scenario.

actually I think idol scandals will actually boost idol popularity overall.  It's attention-grabbing.  People fucking love a car crash.

Right, celebrity scandals are good for Hollywood.

Scandals involving executives aren't, but unfortunately celebrities are ultimately disposable in the eyes of the industry...
