Do chinese idols debut in Korea just to get recognition?

After first few years since debut in the group they're usually gone to China. I mean, it's probably better for them, but still kinda sucks.

Idols like: EXO's Lay, WJSN entire chinese line, Victoria (kinda), Jackson

I'm sure there are more, these are just on top of my head.

What is happening to WJSN chinese members anyway?

It's extremely hard to break into the Chinese market as idols as far as I've observed. There's a solo stan culture so groups aren't priority. Many of them end up going into acting because it's a bigger field and more profitable. I wouldn't say ALL Chinese idols debut in Korea to get recognition, but it definitely helps a lot.

As for WJSN, Cheng Xiao has filmed a bunch of dramas (although she does release some music). Meiqi's pretty popular and has released quite a bit of music and often is a host/judge on singing/dancing shows. She also acted in one drama with Xiao Zhan. Xuan Yi has also released some music and has done some acting. They're all doing pretty well, definitely more popular than they were in WJSN. With the political tensions, xenophobia, and how well they're doing in China, I don't see them going back to WJSN for promos (probably just stuff here and there like the Season's Greetings), but officially they're still members.

Jackson just signed to a Korean label and has a  Korean song with Rain that just came out
He always wanted to do solo Korean promotions but JYP actually forbid him too, i think he'll have a bunch more promotions in SK now he's free

But it's even harder to make it from the ground up in China given it's such a competitive industry. Chinese K-pop idols from established groups have one hell of a headstart in comparison to their non-idol peers. They get deals because they have a following and can sell, they will also get acting opportunities because of their hype and so on. There's just no comparison with someone with no following nor recognition working their way up.

Depends, I think before produce yes, after produce I did notice idols even without any China popularity can be judges and get sudden surge of a fandom

Still even with it, kpopnis like anmust

Yes. Well not "only" but one of reasons. I agree with people above.

Also for those who want to be out there to perform, china ent wasn't an option. (Still isn't though). There's literally no stages except festivals (which not everyone got chances), but survival shows after 2018 helped.

Music industry in general isn't cultivated well there, or so people say. Piracy is a common enemy.

Wsjn china line are popular. Them being under one of biggest ent industry also helped (besides 2 of them were members of popular produce group).

I think that there are some Chinese K-pop idols who just really want to be K-pop stars like DC's Han Dong, G-Idle's Yuqi, even CLC's Elkie (who I don't think would have left if she thought Cube would give CLC a future) or even Pristin's Kyulkyung (her parent told her K-pop was a scam and she signed with Pledis anyway) and then there are others are using it for a springboard for the Chinese market. A big part to play is how the company treats them. SM is notoriously bad to its Chinese idols so no wonder they leave. Meanwhile Han Dong seems happy being back with her group in Korea after spending months in China and participating in a show there and gaining a fanbase - I can only think thats because HappyFace treats her right.

Because of K-pop's global appeal (which Mandopop does not seem to have yet)  a Chinese idol in a hit group can become a global star outside China and return as a player, while if they stayed in China they have to start from the ground up. It makes sense to be a Kpop star first. There are also others like WJSN's C-line who I'm sure would still like to be part of their groups but they're just too many opportunities in China and big bucks for them to pass up (this is especially true for Xuan Yi and Mei Qi who had no individual schedules in Korea but are getting gigs all over the place since Rocket Girls).

in that subject we can talk about bonbon girls' liu xiening who told how sad she was during her idol days in korea and how happy she was during the survival knowing she could be herself and show herself

i think some just genuinely want to become idols but the idol thing in china is just barely picking up with the survival shows and stuff, also maybe it’s because of the language and restrictions or whatever but the music and talent of these groups that debut there is so mediocre 😶

this year’s qcyn and chuang have some questionable talent that even tao said he stopped watching at the first episode
