German radio station's racist comments towards BTS

BTS made history as the first Korean act to headline 'MTV Unplugged'. One of the highlights of the show was their cover of Coldplay's Fix You. Coldplay themselves praised them too.

Due to BTS’s cover, “Fix You” becomes Coldplay’s best selling song in the digital platforms currently.

However, a German radio host Matthias Matuschik is being criticized for an on-air tirade against the group BTS.

The radio station is Bayern 3 (@bayern3)  and the radio host is Matthias Matuschik (@MMatuschik). They are part of the "Bayrischer Rundfunk" which is a state funded News Organization.

Kmedia has now reported about it and there's a German article too.

Sort of ironic considering FC Bayern (soccer team) has tweeted about Dynamite and previously at BTS before because James Rodriguez is a fan of BTS and especially Jimin. The birthday tweets are cute.

As a German (and Bavarian), this is just hella sad. I showed this to my hubby (who’s a mid 30s metal head and really doesn’t dig kpop) and even he was like “wtf why” and “someone should call in, that’s state funded radio, they shouldn’t be talking like that”.
I don’t get why that man is so mad?! Like, you’re not even playing bts, why do you care so much? Is your wife an obsessed fan and you’re jealous? Why do you even care so much? Geeez.

After insulting BTS like that, you can be sure that this guy will complain that fans harassed him on social media or whatever. Guys like him are the worse

Is there an organization that should monitor their racism? Seeing how they seem to get funds from the state.

Well I’m not sure exactly but they are part of the state founded media network in Germany and I’m sure it will have some sort of consequences - even though the statement made by the radio team on their homepage was a joke.

from what I have heard his superior just lets him do whatever he wants because it's the "concept of the show" that he's being very blunt, that's what the radio station wrote in their "apology" as well. I don't think the radio station sees the need to issue a sincere apology, they even responded to a WhatsApp message addressing the situation in a very condescending way.

someone should make a documentary about this kind of phenomenon. there's a history of famous pop boys being hated just for being famous pop boys, and BTS is getting this compounded with racism and xenophobia. it's insane. there is no reason for this kind of hatred.

What an ahole! Did he think people will laugh with him and be like "OMG he has an inanimate object from Korea so he is not racist." Same energy as the "I have an *insert POC here* acquaintance so am not racist", but at-least those brand of racists don't equate an entire group of people into an inanimate object.
