The recent uprising of bullying allegations towards K-pop idols; a phenomenon resemblant to Weinstein effect?

True, people speaking out inspires and encourage others to do so too. But it's also true it motivates trolls and haters too - which is a form of mob mentality. Same thing happened in the West. Basically everyone should read all sides carefully before automatically jumping to conclusions.  Tho at the end of the day, most of these bullying cases end up being hearsay. It's difficult to tell what's true and what's not.

I agree. Hence why we should not make hasty judgments which can discredit accounts of explanation or allegation.

With "most allegations being hearsay', I don't have the extensive knowledge about the bullying allegations dating from before but some that I know of are barely hearsay and most are personal experience. I know some by which a settlement has been reached and of course those who are proven false but I don't have the evidence to prove that most are hearsay. Nevertheless, it means that at least some are true and we still should be careful of the remarks we make.

If the person is lying then it's not a personal experience. It's still just a lie.

Hearsay because sometimes there tend to be random friends or classmates jumping in with their opinions too. But I guess it would of been better to say "He said-She said".  Because in most cases there's no evidence to prove any side. So we as outsiders are literally just making a judgment based on our own personal feelings about the case or idol.

Side note: At least with sexual harassment or other sex crimes, the case can be taken to court and judge professionally. With these bullying cases it's being left  to "netizens" ,  "stan twitter", and etc...

I wonder why Naver is removing their search rankings though.

recent article -

Spoiler

South Korean search giant Naver Corp. said Thursday it will shut down its online portal's real-time search chart service this month amid a yearslong controversy over whether it could be prone to advertising or be used to rig public opinion.

The portal giant, which draws 30 million users everyday, said in a blog post that it will shut down the service on Feb. 25 as user searches have become more diversified and specific.

The search chart first appeared in 2005 and has served as a major part of Naver's online portal, showing the most popular trending searches by rank.

The service, however, came under fire in recent years amid allegations that it could feature advertisements or political messages.

In 2019, the chart displayed support and opposition messages of then-justice minister nominee Cho Kuk.

While Naver has tried to address such concerns by expanding the search rank list from 10 to 20 and using artificial intelligence technology to personalize searches catered to user interests, it said it would discontinue the service.

The latest move comes after Kakao Corp., which operates smaller local rival Daum, shut down its real-time search service in February last year.

Naver has also faced accusations that it abuses its search algorithms, with the country's antitrust regulator fining the company 26.7 billion won ($23.8 million) last October for manipulating search algorithms in favor of the company's online shopping site. (Yonhap)
