JYP Entertainment has issued an official statement of apology on February 11, after a hanbok designer called out a recently released video of TWICE members Dahyun and Chaeyoung covering Rain and J.Y. Park's "Switch To Me".

The agency revealed,

"Hello. this is JYP Entertainment. Regarding the outfit seen in Dahyun and Chaeyoung's Melody Project video, this hanbok piece was purchased through a hanbok distributor; nonetheless, we were not able to properly recognize its similarity to others' work. We would like to sincerely apologize for this mistake. We offered a thorough explanation as well as our sincere apologies to the designer involved. We will take greater care to ensure that this does not happen again."

Earlier, designer and visual director Kim Balko, known for her work in custom-made, modernized hanbok designs, posted the following via her SNS, writing, "Ehhng??!! My custom design work is in a video that I didn't participate in??!!"

More specifically, Kim Balko seemed to be referring to the hanbok jacket worn by Dahyun in the video:

Netizens were quick to point out that the jacket featured a nearly identical design as the customized hanbok jacket worn by BLACKPINK's Jisoo in the "How You Like That" MV.

BLACKPINK's "How You Like That" MV is widely believed to have marked a revolutionary beginning in the usage of modernized hanbok in the world of K-Pop. Previously, designer Kim Balko and BLACKPINK's style director Park Min Hee received an award recognizing their innovative work in Korean fashion.

IDK. It's not the first time a big agency copies something someone else made but since this time it's an actual Korean designer and related to Blackpink, they actually apologized. Like, alright but let's also aknowledge they did this just because it touched them more personally compared to mooching off western designers.

Jyp staff are so stupid, how can you look at the hanbok and not think of jisoo’s

I mean, I didn't, cuz I just give blackpink MVs a single watch to see if I like the song and if I do I listen to it on Spotify. Probably not the only one who does this. So details like this from MVs are going to very easily slip by people like me.

Not that much of a stretch to assume that JYP staff might be the same.

I didn't know either, reason? I don't really watch them not everyone is going to know.

Yeah but are you a stylist? If no, then that’s why you aren’t aware of other stylists’ works.

The thing is that you don’t work as a stylist in korea (I assume) that’s why you don’t really care about idols’ outfits. But big3 stylists are obviously aware of each other’s work and check out the outfits of the rival groups.

And Jisoo’s hanbok was a BIG THING in Korea, they were many articles about it. The designer even won an award. Now you’re gonna tell me twice’s (bp’s rival) stylist never heard about it? Come on...  even I who is not even a bp stan know about jisoo’s original hanbok. It’s like saying a korean producer who plagiarized, let’s say red velvet’s psycho, could have not known because some international stans don’t care about rv’s musical production. Everyone working in the same field check out their colleagues’ works, especially when these colleagues work for a rival company. It’s no rocket science.

No, I'm not. but the fact is, not everyone will know. for example kourtney kardashian's stylist didn't know Kim K wore the same thing which they had an argument about and that just my 2 cents.

So a hanbok designer brought it to attention. Aparently that particular hanbok was specifically (?) for bp mv, and the designer didn't work for that dahyun video, hence the post. So jyp apologized. And....done.

By the way.....are posts above me misdirected from another thread? They don't seem to be on topic

And that only shows her incompetence as a stylist..

Which posts aren’t on topic? Everyone here is talking about jyp and the hanbok they copied.

Apparently not everyone lol. Your first post seemed like a whining stan but it actually makes sense.

First, I am nowhere a bp or yg stan lmao. I only know like 6 BP songs.

Second, my first post was perfectly on topic. If you read my other posts here you will understand what I mean by JYP staff being stupid creating this issue that could have been easily avoided.

Third, why are you asking if the posts above you are misdirected from another thread when you can clearly read the words "jyp" "hanbok" and "jisoo" which is exactly what this thread is about?

In the MV Dahyun also had the same hairstyle as Jisoo in the picture, which of course on it's own wouldn't mean anything since it's not an unique hairstyle, however having the same hairstyle and the hanbok..how could it be such a coincidence? Because of that, it's hard to believe that they didn't know.

I don't get why some people are downplaying this. When it happened with SM and foreign artists' works you were all up their asses (rightly so). The stylist herself posted on ig that she felt wronged and copied, so an apology was definitely required. This is not a Twice matter (neither a BP matter), stop using this matter to hate on either group.

But you have to admit and give them the benefit of the doubt that they can't know everything in the scene, No one is that knowledgeable. And from what happened today at least they apologized, they acknowledge the mistake and they’ll learn from it.

Maybe chill because my post isnt directed to you at all. I said "posts above me." It's plural.

I also said yours actually make sense in the post you quoted, which you probably skipped. Not sure why.

Because you defined it as a « whining stan » post at first and I didn’t see where I was « whining » on that post so I thought I had to explain myself, it’s as simple as that

I still think that it’s a stylist job to know the current trends and the works of their rivals (especially if you’re working for a big company/group) but yes at least they apologized quickly.

Some people her saying “I didn’t know” as if that a good excuse.. are you a freaking stylist? No? Then ofc you wouldn’t remember/know.

I highly doubt their stylist is that incompetent... it’s ur freaking job u need to be up to date with the latest trends.
