The cast as is now is great. SO I'm anticipating...

KBS will have me for a while because first...Discovery of Romance with my leader Eric and then Nodame...I'm so game

_______________

wait so ppl really thought Joowon wouldn't be a good Chiaki???? really??? I didn't need to see him in a white shirt to know he'd make an awesome Chiaki. He already kinda looks like him, also Joowon has proven himself a good and diverse actor time and again. Of course no one can make a judgement until the drama actually airs...but Joowon isn't an actor I thought ppl would worry about concerning performance.

Is this actually the official discussion thread? I found it on the directory but it seems like a joke...

Either OP needs to come update this...or an official one needs to be made...cuz I feel like we will need a proper thread for this one.

EP 1 WAS SPOT ON Y'ALL!

It was very close to the original which others might hate but I appreciate. They had their differences still so that should settle the hearts of folks who didn't like the carbon copy lol.

Yoojin was perfect. It was Chiaki but it still was a Joowon version of Chiaki instead. Same with Eunkyung's Naeil. I think maybe she shoulda accentuated Nodame's pout more since that's a key point while playing...other than that. I think it was well done.

Kyungpyo's Mine (I forget the Korean name) was perfect xD (ALSO HIS DAD!)

I still have reservations about Stresemann tho..and I don't like that we're thrown into the past romance of Stresemann so early on.

Overall tho I'm amped for the rest of the series~

After watching the first two episodes the remake seems okay,it doesn't seem amazing bad or good

So far I really like how Joo Won is playing Chiaki, it feel true to the OG character while still keeping his own air

As for EunKyung I don't know how I feel about how she's playing Nodame, Personally I've always found Nodame's character irritating but for some reason I just find the way Juri Ueno played Nodame more likable right now

For the other roles, most act like the OG character but don't add anything to it, which is safe but doesn't make it as interesting

I actualy think Go Kyungpyo is making Mine his very own. He's like the OG...but it's still not a carbon copy. At least imo

Stresemann is nothing like the original imo but...I don't liek that very much. LOL he seems nowhere near as flashy as he should be.

I like it, It's good so far.

I unfortunately forgot the details in Nodame Cantabile so I can't compare it   but it feels different, less slapstick manga-esque and Eunkyung acting feels unconsistent, sometime she exaggerate her character a little sometimes she's  natural as 'Nodame'.

So in a way, Tomorrow Cantabile is closer to real life than Nodame Cantabile, they also add tidbit in Il-lac (Mine) relationship with his father.

Jo Woon did a good job, he even has that weird sneering face lol

cantabile02-00274.jpg

I agree with everything you said. LOL It seems like they're trying to make it more "k-drama like" and less "anime/manga-esque"...sometimes it works; sometimes it's awkward. Scenes where Yoojin is supposed to comically be violent towards Naeil isn't as funny because there are none of the catchphrases or highlights to accentuate the comedy (No "GYABO" or "MUKYAA" or funny faces  etc)

But there were some parts that managed to be just as funny even if it wasn't as manga-esque....like Ilrak (Mine) talking about his father to the test evaluator...also...

I dang near died at the Chiaki-smirk

bgegs9.jpg

There were parts in ep 2 (when she was sick) that Eunkyung looked EXACTLY like Ueno Juri....it was uncanny. About Naeil's portrayal so far...you're right. sometimes it's a bit too much...and sometimes it just falls RIGHT into place.

I agree about the funny parts, I find it entertaining as well. I actually don't really like it when some dramas are too manga-esque since it's a drama after all, the application will differ compared to manga of course. So I like how this drama don't force itself to copy the manga-esque parts one and makes its own.

For me, the manga-esque scenes in jdramas are part of the reason I love them so much. I love seeing all the hilarity come to life. So seeing folk fly across the room slow motion with funny faces cracks me up!

But I can appreciate more subtle humour as well. lol

Kyungpyo is nailing everything out of this. Also it was nice how true Dohee stayed to character so far...

I reeeeeeeeeally hate how they're dragging things out with the adults tho...and Stresemann....it's just not getting any better for me...I guess this is just his take. It's almost completely different.

Watched ep 4...

the only issue I have with this drama so far, is STRESEMANN...and the dragged out love plot with Mina tha seems to really have no place in the story just yet. Also just Stresemann overall. He's not entertaining, he's not intriguing, he's not flashy or awkwardly funny....he's just THERE. Since when is Stresemann supposed to be all quiet "subtle"...idek. He's ruining so much for me.

They seemed to have completely altered Sakura (Minhee's) storyline...but I'll work with it.

And if there's anything that's super interesting about this rendition; it's the relationship between Ilrak and his dad being highlighted, his soon to be competition (and more) with the concertmistress from A-oke and Ilrak's friendship with Yoojin. I feel like that's being fleshed out more than it was in the OG...at least so far and I'm enjoying it. Of course the main characters are doing their thing and Timpani dude...well...he's trying to stay true to the original.

It's a bit slow compared to the first two eps...but I know it would be stretched out because k-dramas are much longer than j-dramas...but it's not terrible. I'm waiting on next ep to see how they allow the festival to go down.

And I WISH somebody would do sumn bout the way Stresemann is portrayed.  :._.:

Just watched ep 5!!!!!

Last week in some other Cantabile related thread I mentioned that I think this is the week Naeil Cantabile will really start to find its footing...I think I was right. I couldn't find much parallels with the original (there were some but not many) and I enjoyed it as a drama on its own. There wasn't much Stresemann or unrelated deals with the adults this ep which I think added to the enjoyment. I like their take on the competition of the orchestras....the reveal of Yoojin wearing the shirt...all of that scene was well done and yet it was different from the original.

I like the establishing of the friendship between Ilrak, Naeil and Soomin and Yoojin tryna manage with all these new kooky friends. And the water park scene...well I'll have to wait until tomorrow to see how that unfolds or what part it really played in the plot.

overall, for ppl who marked this off, if the drama keeps up at the rate of this ep, they would have regretted marking it off so early because it feels like it is coming into its own.

I didn't watch yet! going to rn since you seem impressed ^_^

I mean it's not phenomenal~~~~ but I'm happy to see it gain its own balance. It really didn't resemble the original but at the same time it didn't feel weird or trying hard to be different.

i love how the drama made me feel bad for the opponent team even though they are not the one i am supposed to be rooting for :)

and that is def something the original did not do lol

also i loved shim eun kyung extremely adorable portrayal of naeil but at the same time agree with those who say that her character is too one-dimensional

thankfully they dealt with that in the 5th episode during that scene she has with the leftover professor............

Yup! As I said, a lot of things came into balance in ep 5.

Also...

This is a recent photoshoot of Shim Eunkyung...and she looks crazy like Ueno Juri here. It's NUTS. I wish I saw more of this resemblance in the drama itself.

but you should see it since she has the same look in the drama......probably the airbrushing made her look similar

the only time in the drama I thought she looked just like Ueno Juri was the ep when she was sick. Her whole mannerism in those scenes were spot on and from certain angles she reeeeeeeeeeally looked like her. I don't see it a lot tho lol.

And they've introduced the triangle creator...our cellist (who was originally an oboe/clarinet player right?lol)

I feel like they're gonna milk the romance aspect of this...*sigh* I want them to stay focused on the music and Naeil's/S-Oke's development tho.

actually the 5th episode improved my image of him a lot.........his moments with yoo jin were extremely interesting and nice to watch

and when he made a fool out of the owner of the institute,i laughed my ass off :)

let's just say if he was a completely new, independent character...I'd be bored but I wouldn't hate him. Because I know how Stresemann is it's exceedingly annoying how bland he is in comparison lol. So yeah his relationship with Yoojin is shaping up but still....so bland

I was intrigued!!!!

So Naeil Cantabile has officially stepped out on its own page. It started gaining footing last week and it's well on its way now. This story line is shaping up to be interesting. So our cellist can conduct (feels a bit ex-machina but I'll roll with it)...he sparks Yoojin's competitive fire that will make him a more exciting pianist (prediction for next ep)...also seems like our cellist/conductor/new hero has finger problems that'll limit his cello playing (can't be k-drama without a health issue)...and the love triangle seems like it'll be complicated as Yoojin hasn't admitted that he's interested in Naeil to anyone or himself. He acted on impulse by grabbing her from cellist/conductor/new hero but it doesn't seem like he's suddenly [aware of being] in love with her (which is good cuz I thought they were gonna try to push that love line...but they haven't).

I'm essited to see what happens next ep~

Ep 8~~~

The Franz and Mina storyline and the way they incorporated him being taken away by Elisse. Oh dear =_=

Anyway, Yoonhoo storyline is going along nicely I guess. Interested to see how Yoojin will patch things up with Ilrak and the gand who are upset with him now. Ilrak and Siwon are makin connections~ The fate of S oke is up in the air and it makes you want to see what's gonna happen.

Also now that Paper fan sensei has discovered that Naeil is a genius of sorts I guess we have to see how he's gonna go from scary teacher to the man who nurtured her.

Shim Eunkyung did a SPLENDID job on that last crying scene. I like that she was a perfect mix of bawling baby and angry at Yoojin being as strict as "the others". She nailed that.

I want to see a bit more from Joowon in that piano scene where he played with A oke. But I liked how he acted when Naeil was out cold from exhaustion and muscle contractions; I liked how much he breathed in the compliment that Naeil was "possessed" by his performance. It's almost like he was possessed by the fact that she was possessed by his performance lol. Also his whack-a-mole catharsis was funny...it reminded of sumn Tamaki woulda done in his portrayal.

So I'm officially at the stage now where I can't wait for the other ep to see what'll happen next lol. And you can't trace back to the original anymore to see how it'll go.
