As reported by the New York Post

"Thousands of National Guardsmen were “banished” to a cramped parking garage after being abruptly forced to leave parts of the US Capitol grounds Thursday, according to reports.

Officers were told they could no longer access areas of the US Capitol Complex — including a Senate office cafeteria previously used as a rest area — after tirelessly protecting the nation’s capital in the days leading up to the presidential inauguration, according to Politico.

“We honestly just feel betrayed,” one Guardsman told the outlet. “After everything went seamlessly, we were deemed useless and banished to a corner of a parking garage.”

One unit of 5,000 officers  — enlisted after the deadly US Capitol breach earlier this month — was forced to take breaks in a nearby garage with no internet reception, a single electrical outlet and only two bathroom stalls, the report said.

Photos appear to show troops lying on the cement floor to rest and sleeping while leaning against concrete pillars inside the garage, angering some officers.

“We feel incredibly betrayed,” a Guardsman said. “Yesterday dozens of senators and congressmen walked down our lines taking photos, shaking our hands and thanking us for our service. Within 24 hours, they had no further use for us and banished us to the corner of a parking garage.

...

The National Guard Bureau said the troops had been temporarily relocated because Congress is in session.

“The National Guard continues to assist and support the U.S. Capitol Police. As Congress is in session and increased foot traffic and business is being conducted, Capitol Police asked the troops to move their rest area,” the National Guard Bureau said in a statement. “They were temporarily relocated to the Thurgood Marshall Judicial Center garage with heat and restroom facilities. We remain an agile and flexible force to provide for the safety and security of the Capitol and its surrounding areas.”"

According to reports, the parking garage had approximately two bathroom stalls for 5,000 troops with only one electric outlet available and no Wi-Fi.

...

The move sparked outrage among state governors. Texas Governor Greg Abbott recalled National Guardsmen late on Thursday. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis released a statement early Friday indicating that he had also recalled his state's troops Thursday night.

The National Guard Bureau, however, said earlier Thursday the troop relocation was temporary because Congress is in session. "The National Guard continues to assist and support the U.S. Capitol Police. As Congress is in session and increased foot traffic and business is being conducted, Capitol Police asked the troops to move their rest area. They were temporarily relocated to the Thurgood Marshall Judicial Center garage with heat and restroom facilities. We remain an agile and flexible force to provide for the safety and security of the Capitol and its surrounding areas," the National Guard Bureau said in a statement.

All National Guard troops have now been relocated to space within the Capitol complex.

Sen. Mike Lee, a Utah Republican, wrote, "Very upset by this story but I have been in touch with the Utah National Guard and they are taken care of. My staff and I are investigating what happened here and will continue working to fix this situation."

Sen. Tammy Duckworth, an Illinois Democrat, tweeted, "Just made a number of calls and have been informed Capitol Police have apologized to the Guardsmen and they will be allowed back into the complex tonight. I'll keep checking to make sure they are."

One week earlier, pictures of National Guard troops resting in the Capitol rotunda also caused an uproar. A spokesperson for the Guard made clear that the troops were not sleeping on duty but were resting between shifts.

A week earlier (before the inauguration) the guards were bashed due to an out of context photo... (favors democrats)

After the inauguration, articles now being released using exaggerated words like "banished"... (favors republicans)

Lesson of the day, don't fall for the media play.

Exactly. I learned this in one of my journalism classes. They use clickbait to get people to only read the headline but, if they are smart enough, they'll read the article. It's all about clicks and money at the end of the day.

The same paragraph is included with what I wrote.

My particular focus here is that this caused outrage, which is true. I also put in that paragraph in to reflect why they were relocated and that it was temporary (which suggests that they were later relocated BACK inside the Capitol building).

That being said, none of that changes the fact that people were outraged and that states have brought their National Guardsmen back home.

I also linked to the full article which shows that there was bipartisan condemnation of the temporary location, suggesting that it's not a left or right issue. It can very well be argued that, despite the relocation being temporary, that it was unnecessary to do it in a parking garage and that the incident should never have happened to begin with.

I agree that "banish" is a bit too strong, but that's reportedly what one of the guardsmen said, so that's why it's included with the quotation marks.

They were only assigned temporarily, so they were going to return home soon.

"Most of the 25,000 National Guardsmen who were brought to Washington to help secure the city through the inauguration will be sent home within five to 10 days, the Bureau said earlier Thursday. Approximately 15,000 troops will return home "as soon as possible," though the planning and process to begin moving them may take a few days."

About the rest of your post: okay. I don't see much disagreement in this thread. Simply one person commented that the incident had already been solved and I wrote the lesson of the day.^^

But they specifically called them back in relation to this. Don't be dense.

I'm not being dense. They were leaving soon anyways. Besides as the article mentions, it's a process. It's not like states can pull every single one at once.

None of that is the point.

Maybe the article should have had a line at the bottom mentioning the National Guard were called to the Capitol because Trump's minions rioted resulting in the deaths of 5 people and injuries to 60 Capitol Police officers.

The article mentions that they were there after the deadly US Capitol riots earlier this month. The full article includes a hyperlink to more info on that.
