I'll just reply about group I somewhat follow

EXID - inactive, they told us they would stay as exid even by signing with other agencies, but so far we only got japanese comebacks, and that's because they still have a contract with their japanese label. Maybe we'll get a x year anniversary single or something, but I don't see them being active.
EXO - active but not as full group with enlistment and solo projects
VIXX - inactive, same as exid, maybe they'll be able to do stuff together thanks to ravi's label, but i don't get my hopes up.

Imo the very top groups like EXO, BTS, Seventeen, NCT, Twice, RV, Blackpink, Mamamoo, etc are still gonna be strong in 3 years. Maybe most of them won't be at their peak anymore but still will outsell and outchart many new gen groups.

Then there's groups that I don't see disbanding but I think they're gonna be barely active because they're already past their peak and/or don't seem that are gonna grow much more like Monsta X, Lovelyz, Astro, SF9, Pentagon, WJSN, ONF, etc. All these groups have decent sales and charting but not at the level of the top groups and maybe their companies are gonna start putting them in the backburner to favor the newer groups. Plus the bgs in particular have a lot of members that are gonna enlist in the next few years too.

And then there's the groups I see 80-100% disbanding because they're already half dead (like AOA, VIXX, etc) or because they have low sales (less than 10-20k) and don't seem like they're gonna grow much more.

I understand Irene scandal & all. But why do people think they will be inactive, lol. Joy-Seulgi-Yeri have been teasing a comeback since December.

Edit: I misread the title as 2021, not 2024. I do believe Red Velvet will be semi-active or inactive.

For me, Irene scandal isn't a main factor. All the members will probably renew with SM, so the above members teasing for a comeback makes sense. The new contract will probably be for another 2-3 years. Around 2024 is when the new contract will end and time for new negotiations. I feel some members might want to leave SM.  I think they'll definitely try to release something in 2024, since it's their 10th anniversary. But overall for the year of 2024, I don't think RV will be active as a group together. idk..

To this day, SM has NEVER had a group whose members all lasted for 10 years. Shinee almost made it, but something happened on Dec 17 2017.

 

So, it is likely that SM will try to keep RV together until at least 2024. aespa just began and its target is international and will not overlap RV's supporters. If all 4 original members stay till then, SM does have the first group where all members stayed for 10 years (Yeri is NOT an original member so does NOT count).
