Interestingly enough the rate of smoking among men is roughly 34% - 37% from what I read, the lowest in decades. Still over a third of all men in Korea. I grew up in the 90s and smoking was seen as that forbidden thing that the "cool kids" did back then. It was one of the reasons why here in the US, we had those DARE programs that talked about the dangers of smoking and drugs and dismantled any perceived "coolness" of them. These days ads about smoking are anti-smoking campaigns but in the 90s there were a lot of TV ads that hyped up cigarette brands like Malboros. If you google pics of him smoking there's alot of them and one of them even dated as far back 2008 during Mirotic.
