I mean, it's obvious the rich fans do it in order to get noticed. They hope that the more expensive gifts they give their fave, the more they will notice their worth (like, "we're in the same league, I'm rich too" kind of thinking). This shit will always happen because it's part of delusion culture too, just for the rich instead of the poor.

However, since this stuff will always happen, I at least wish idols could make donations out of all these things because they clearly receive so many smartphones and bags that not even their third grade cousins need them anymore. I hope they already do (and don't say it of course because they could never say they gave away the gifts) so that this stuff isn't completely wasted.

I believe I saw some fandoms do that and it's a cute and appropriate thing to do, I agree. Generally I wish idols themselves would promote investing money in charity under their name rather than just gifting them stuff they already have. Maybe companies end up using the gifts money and that's why they don't put a stop to it either but it's just so fucking sad because there is enough wealth to literally change people's lives here.
