 It's f*cking f*cking f*cking difficult to write a song with a refreshing concept. The moment you twist the melody, it can sound flat and if you make a mistake it'll just sound like those upbeat and loud songs. It's way harder than writing dark and strong songs... I know you guys expect having refreshing songs like EXO LMR and Seventeen Aju Nice but it's quite hard to pull off this vibe... You need good producing skills and a big company (like SM) but it's not as easy as you guys think.. 

If you look at representative refreshing songs like EXO LMR, Seventeen Aju Nice, NCT Dream We Young, they all have complex structures. You can follow the songs easily but there's songs like Growl and Overdose which are darker songs, which are obvious, but this isn't the case, you need to create a bright aura. You need to combine different sentiment to make you feel like it's something refreshing... This is why big companies usually don't try refreshing concepts, because it's so hard to make one..

one more reason is that int fans usually are not a fan of these refreshing concepts. knetz on the other hand don't care about boy groups anymore other than bts. so 90% of these groups are stuck with the same concept to attract int fans cuz that's the only way for them to keep selling lol

Branch out of your music. There are a lot of nugus making that type of music that folks be neglecting. Stop looking at groups made vy major companies. New groups from smaller companies literally try all concepts but nobody is buying their music so they all gotta disband.

refreshing doesn't necessarily have to be cute. refreshing to me is not the typical badass/dark concepts that most boy groups do. it can be cute but can also be fun or just cheerful or sometimes weird lol. this thread has some good examples of refreshing concepts

It’s not hard. Girl groups do it. Boy groups just be tryna be all manly and hard. They really enjoy doing the intense glares and body rolls and stuff because they are attempting to display their sexual prowess through performance so that many female fans will want to hook up with them.

I feel I see a discussion like this at least once a month and I always say the same: many bgs still do refreshing concepts but majority of them are paid dust by both korean and international fans so they have to stick to what it sells and brings attention even if it's just with i-fans.

This year alone there's been songs like BTS' Dynamite, TxT's Blue Hour, SVT's Left and Right, Golcha's Pump it Up, Bae173's Crush on You, 1team's Ullaeli kkollaeli, Cravity's Cloud9, etc but only SVT and TxT have charted decently (and BTS, obviously),

And no, it's not comparable with ggs because the GP pays more attention to ggs regardless of the concepts as long the song is good/catchy.

right? there are plenty of girl groups with refreshing concepts, this is just a cop-out lol. the reality is that idols often prefer more "mature" or "dark" concepts especially once they reach their 20s and that BG fans, especially i-fans, just eat up the dark sexy stuff. even groups that start out with a refreshing concept like astro or the boyz nearly always move into something sexier because that's what brings the money in.

this was literally one of the best debuts this year: colorful, fun, catchy, quirky but people slept on them despite having 2 former X1 members in the group.

I'll never understand why people complain so much about bgs always moving to the dark/mature/sexy concept when they don't have other choice basically.
