What Koreans think of KPOP BIG4 Labels (Ranking SM / YG / JYP / BIGHIT)

Everyone had different rankings and opinions about certains questions here.

However the general consensus I was able to gathereed is -

SM is still the most well known and recognized - due to the amount of successful artists they've had over the years. Bighit is the one people feel will get even bigger due to  BTS and other groups being able to benefit from the brand. JYP is stable. And Blackpink is basically carrying YG right now.

agreed. used to think bts carried big hit but after they acquired other labels and got gfriend and seventeen under them they're getting bigger. i also predict txt will grow bigger in a few years kinda like nct to sm

people hate on sm a lot but they always create successful artists. nct being million sellers. aespa's debut looking bright too. taeyeon as always dominating the digitals

as for yg i think one of the main reasons they're heavily promoting treasure is because they need to secure their spot as the big 4 because as of now blackpink is basically carrying the company. ikon and winner have been a hit or miss they either have hits or they don't. and it's actually working for treasure if you look at how much albums they've sold now.

jyp is pretty steady. itzy being arguably the biggest group in 4th gen. stray kids and twice are still doing pretty good too

I wonder what it's like for a company to be basically carried by one group. This applies to more than one of those companies.

I don't think there's much to wonder about tbh. There are many companies like this in Kpop industry. If we look outside of even these Big 4 companies, it's usually one group doing the carrying for years.

Everyone starts from somewhere.

I mean not from a public perspective, but for the actual workers and such. There must be some kind of fear or other feelings. Say like if something goes wrong, this company could fail or what not.

Like anything in life, it depends on how much faith you have in the product or person. Of course, there's a risk in investing all your trust in one thing too. But sometimes it's worth it.

Also people are less fearful if they see future potential. For example let's take Bighit, while BTS is of course huge...Bighit do have other profitable groups. 17, Gfriend and Nuest. And their new groups TXT and Enhypen are doing well too and rising. And even upcoming groups are showing great potential profitably. Most importantly all of Bighit groups are tour ready. Due to all of this even if BTS were to go wrong Bighit is setting themselves up to still be very profitable.  As a worker things like this is promising.

I have a friend who lived in Korea who told me people there have no idea what they are lol

I mean, this was lowkey suggested in the video too^^

If you're not heavily interested in pop music and/or following stanning a group yourself at one point of your life, then the chances of knowing a company is low

However still SM is probably overall the most known since they have years of producing successful pop acts in Korea.

it's interesting because YG used to have such a strong roster but with all their scandals and mismanagement they've let not 1 not 2 but 3 popular boy groups really stumble... kinda feels like JYP back before Twice and WG's resurgence in that their future looks really uncertain despite past successes

BTS is definitely still carrying BigHit but they've made a lot of smart business moves to diversify and I think TXT is proof that the label itself has enough goodwill from fans that they're willing to check out and support new artists aside from their faves
