Despite their disbandment, all members of Gugudan are still under Jellyfish Entertainment. What will be Jellyfish’s plan for them?

Earlier today, Jellyfish Entertainment announced that Gugudan will cease group activities after December 31st marking the disbandment of their first girl group ever. Many people saw this coming after member Sally’s revelation that the company suddenly asked them to vacate their dorms and because they did not have any comebacks since their last on 2018.

However, despite their disbandment, it is included that the members are still under contract with Jellyfish Entertainment.

Normally, in cases where there has been problems with the group, they will disband and subsequently terminate their contracts except members who are still deemed profitable, however in the case of Gugudan, all members surprisingly are still under Jellyfish Entertainment. Which raises the question: what the fuck does Jellyfish still want with them?

Here are some of the scenarios which came across my mind:

1. A potential re-debut

Whenever I feel bad about Gugudan, I always try to fool myself and think about the fact that they are under the same company as VIXX and Verivery who are magnificently promoted and perhaps they will get back on their feet soon. The members trained for so damn long, some even longer than Sejeong and Mina, and I wouldn’t want their talents to be wasted at all. Hence, there can be a re-debut with fewer members and a complete concept overhaul. Like a Hynapia, but under a company that actually has money. This is very unlikely though.

2. Members will pursue acting & variety (RIP Haebin and Soyee scenario)

Aside from Sejeong and Mina who are very successful idol-turned-actors, there are Gugudan members who actually trained to be actresses. It took Jellyfish long to let them act but Hana starred in web drama “My Fxxxx Romance” and is set to lead another web drama called “Another Peaceful Day of Second Hand Items”. Mimi had a minor role in popular drama “Extraordinary You” and is part of the main cast of upcoming web drama “Re:Feel”. Nayoung, despite not training to be an actress, is also pursuing a career in theater. She debuted as a lead in musical “Mefisto” and “Why Did You Come To My House”. All mentioned members also have appeared on variety shows one way or another and Nayoung was actually active in many shows before 2020.

This leaves the main vocalists under the bus though. Haebin acted before in musical “Monte Cristo” only months after debut but was never followed. Soyee never had any exposure in acting.

3. SeMiNa continues, other members ignored

It’s sad how I think this is the most probable scenario. Sejeong and Mina are really popular and has a pretty big difference with the other members. Despite their contracts still being under effect, Jellyfish could just be patiently waiting for time to run out and let go of the poor ladies. It is worth mentioning that Hana and Mimi’s acting stints are all SELF AUDITIONED and had no influence of Jellyfish. Sejeong, Mina, and maybe Nayoung will be promoted but the other members will have to survive by themselves.

 

It would be a lie to say that I didn’t see this coming but I admit, I kept on having faith that they’ll come back together soon. I extremely love everyone in Gugudan and wish for the best. What do you guys think will happen to them?

I think all the members ( or most ) are booked either for dramas or OSTs so hopefully they will continue both their singing and acting careers . I actually think that Gugudan is one of the most vocally talented GGs of this generation, sad to see them disband so soon

Sejeong - solo artist and acting.

Mina - maybe a solo debut and acting too? idk

Hana - acting because she's already been in a sorta successful webdrama this year.

No idea about the others but I guess either solo debuts or mostly acting/variety/CFs (more inclined to this).

Maybe SeMina could become a permanent subunit too.
