Why do people like toxic relationships so much?

They probably come from an abusive family or lived through trauma in the past. It's the only way I see it but there are certainly other reasons. For those who didn't experience any abuse/trauma in the past, I personally don't get it. I was stuck in a very violent relationship, it did a lot of damage onto me and my family. It changed me as a person. I don't understand people who romanticize toxic / abusive relationship. Why would you want to live through this much pain? I find it insensitive toward victims.
