F(x)’s Luna Becomes The Voice Of Marvel’s First K-Pop Superhero

Today, superhero franchise giant Marvel announced that f(x)‘s Luna is the new voice of their first K-Pop superhero, the aptly-named Luna Snow!

You may not have heard of her before, but Luna Snow isn’t technically a new superhero. Marvel actually created her back in 2018 as part of a game collaboration with Netmarble, the company founded by Big Hit Entertainment CEO Bang Si Hyuk‘s brother.

First introduced in the Future Fight mobile video game, the Luna Snow character started out as an aspiring singer who wants to become rich and famous so she can take care of the grandmother who raised her. After a villainous organization exposed her to an energy experiment, she gained ice powers that she now uses to fight crime and perform on the K-Pop stage.

Marvel says Luna Snow was developed after their audience requested more culturally diverse and authentic super heroes. After her introduction in Future Fight, she also had an appearance in War of the Realms: New Agents of Atlas, a Marvel comic book series.

Now, she’s coming to a new video game—Marvel Super War—and she has a new singing voice: that of f(x)’s main vocalist, Luna. As part of the new release, Luna sang the single “Flow” from the character’s point of view.

In a message to Marvel players, Luna said she hopes Luna Snow’s powerful vocals will “heal and encourage fans around the world“.

Luna Snow is said to be a powerful Energy class hero in the Marvel Super War multiplayer online battle arena game, which is available on iOS and Android in select countries. The new Luna Snow character will be added to the game on December 24.

sort of gives me asian vibes. idk

im east asian and i see a whole white woman here LOL. i mean maybe someone could give the argument that shes mixed or something, but even if she is, shes racially ambiguous and white-passing at most :s

im really proud of luna and im glad that theres a kpop superhero but like... if shes supposed to be a kpop idol, theres an implication there that shes going to be korean or at the very least, someone that looks korean/east asian. like yes there are non-asian idols now like in black swan, and theyre valid too, but the vast majority of kpop idols are korean (id say 95%) with a minority being chinese, japanese, or thai.

f(x) fans manifested this, half jokingly because that would be too good to be true, years ago.

Imagine our surprise. So excited!

Lol yea the fandom initially didn't know either. The brothers did a good job of keeping it lowkey. But it eventually became widespread among the fandom when announcements of the new bts games first started being released. More media reports. Also the company is the second largest shareholder of Bighit.

personally, this was actually the picture where i thought she looked most like a white woman LOL

The upper eyelid crease she has is characteristics of a caucasian eye. even east asian people with "double eyelids" dont have a crease that high.

Enhancing_the_Asian_Eye_w2.jpg

and then theres the nose, and the area from the t-zone going into the nose, which is shaped like a caucasian nose. and then the plumped lips and high cheekbones throw it off too, since most east asian people have more rounded faces. and then theres the skin tone... yes, koreans are pale, but they have yellow undertones. this chick straight up has pink/red undertones, which again, is typical of white/caucasian skin. also... everyone knows korean eyebrows are styled straight. this girl has an arch... and even though she has a mutation, the hazel + blue eyes just makes it even less asian LOL.

you might think this is nitpicky, but all these little details make a difference when they add up, and what you get is a final result that no longer looks korean or even asian. if the objective was to make her the first superhero that's a korean idol, then she should look unambiguously korean.

For me, the actual character in the game [video] looks white to me more so^^

The character eyes do not look exactly like the white person eye you posted. However an argument could be made it look like a Korean with PS.

People style their eyebrows however they want. Not everyone does them straight.

There are Asians with plump lips. (Plump lips is actually a characteristic i think of more with Asians than whites...)

There are Koreans with high cheekbones. It's interesting when looking this up some say it's not the majority (means there's still a minority) while others say it's their high cheekbones that tell them apart from Japanese and Chinese.

hmmm the undertone part. i've seen many idols with pink hands and legs (could be a circulation problem for some, i don't know). Also the different makeup blogs I'm looking at are saying there are Koreans with cooler undertones. Not everyone have warm undertones.

I agree, I feel we're being a bit nitpicky (and lowkey generalizing) lol XD

Why should a character who's a Korean idol look unambiguously Korean when so many actual Korean idols don't look unambiguously Korean? "She had plastic surgery" would usually sound like a ridiculous explanation, but given the context...
