It's funny how fans rather assume their idol is gay

Yeah, fans can go overboard, but where in the heck did you get that statistic that 99% idols are hets? Lmao

true there's no guarantee for that percentage? honestly when fans "assume" idols are not hets, at least most of the time when I see it, it's kind of a joke among the LGBTQ community to express their pride (?) idk how to explain it I hope you know what I mean. I mean there is also this (insert idol name here) protector of lesbians / trans community / ... , it has the same meaning, roughly

I honestly don't see a problem with it as long as the people who are doing it aren't fetishizing LGBTQ people. for example there's this weird trend for cishet girls to fetishize gay people. and also there's no problem with it as long as you don't get defensive over your assumption and keep your distance? if I remember correctly Daehwi had to clarify he wasn't gay (? I think it was that) on a livestream, we don't want it to come that far that idols feel uncomfortable, but as long as you keep it an inside joke among the community I don't find it weird or problematic at all

to me it’s just as weird to assume someone is straight as it is to assume they’re gay

also...idol life is show business, which does have a larger proportion of LGBT people than most other professions in almost every area of the world.  saying 99% of idols are straight is such a huge assumption that really doesn’t sit right with me

Just came to say this. Like how is OP any different from people assuming idols are gay? Assuming 99% are straight without any single proof is equally ridiculous.

Not to mention it kinda comes off as homophobic to say that lgtb people do that to "comfort themselves because they'll never be liked back" as if straight fans weren't delusional too about dating idols they've probably never gonna meet in their lives.

3 hours ago, is it just me said:

or better than seeing them with another girl I guess

GG stans do that as well. Loona and RV stans in particular constantly push the "they're lesbians and hate men" narrative and don't stand seeing men around their faves.

I mean, we also live in an universe where every comment section of a group interview with the interviewer being of the opposite sex is littered with analysis of lustful or whipped gazes from the members towards the interviewers, every appreciative moment of an idol has a lot of "his wife/her husband will be so lucky". How come among all these assumptions only the gay fetishization part of it is the problem.

Exactly, I see this a lot, especially with male idols. Fans constantly do "boyfriend edits" with stuff like "imagine how caring and sweet he'll be with his girlfriend" when assuming that someone is straight by default is not different from assuming they're gay. Both are assuming their sexuality based only on speculation or their own fantasies.
