How many views does a kpop MV need for you to consider it successful?

Each group can mobilize a certain amount of fans to stream, a song is successful when it surpasses the usual amount because non fans are interested. This year i would say songs like NonStop by oh my girl and Gods Menu by Stray kids were very successful

with ads it's hard to say tbh...

however the views accumulated within the first 24 hours officially is quite telling considering ad views are not counted and youtube filter out abnormal mass streaming

at least can see the size of the fandom plus general public interest.

I generally like to think that if the song has 10M views in the first week (and hopefully at least 20M in a month) then it did alright. Not all groups have the same amount of dedicated streamers but still end up finding their spot in Korea so if it managed to grab the public's attention the moment it's been released, it did good.

I don't even think that this should be a question,,

In the past during the 1st and 2nd gens, including mid 3rd gen, social "streaming" wasn't an obligation like it is now, meaning most fans depend on views/charts and streaming to do well. Back then, such things did not matter, the only competition was over visuals and talent rather than how much they chart and online/offline downloads, in other words digitals. Yes, YouTube was a thing back then of course, but even with that if a top group's music video was only at 1 million views at the time, their fame mainly depends all on the general audience's interest. Speaking of that, the group/artist can be widely known in Korea and still have low views, but that doesn't mean that they are any less popular or nugu. There are a lot of artists, mainly k-indie bands/artists  I know that don't have a lot of SNS/Social Media outreach, but is very popular in Korea.

To add, streaming is the main reason as of why music videos get a high reach in the first place. Imagine what a 10-50Million viewed music video would have then if everyone only watched the music video ONCE on the first week of release, excluding multiple accounts. Also, at least every artist has a few antis, so having them watch the music video as well adds to it too. I just think that the concept of views = popularity is so silly, like that would be saying a video would have to reach 1 million to be considered "viral". This makes newer fans automatically think that if a music video has less than 10 mill, or even 5, it would be considered unpopular or in more common wording, underrated. Just always think about the general audience's interest first, other than what other people think aka foreign fans or the low views. Because a top song in 2011 could only have 5 million YouTube views while everyone and their mom still listens to it to this day.

Edit: A music video could have low YouTube views, but have good physical and digital sales^^

It depends. For a top global group like BTS, Twice and BP anything below 200M is considered not as successful (unless it's a special video for a b-side or something).

For a not that huge but still top group like RV, Mamamoo, SVT, NCT, Izone, etc I'd say 50-100M is pretty successful.

For rising/trendy groups like ATEEZ, Stray Kids, Itzy, etc same, around 50-100M is really successful.

But for example for mid-tier groups or rookies from smaller companies I'd say even 10-20M is successful. And for total nugu groups even 1-2M in a month is successful.

Also, it's hard to tell these days because 90% of companies are using ads to boost their groups' views. Some groups ' views are literally 90% from ads.

nugu group that reach more then 1m=congratz

mainstream group that reach 10m =congratz

top tier group that reach 50m=woooow

universe superstar that reach 100m = as expected pop group that will represent earth in universe kpop battle.

depending on the group, i could consider anything from 1 million upwards successful.

generally speaking though i consider 15+ million views to be good (since there's some well-off groups that get that many views), 50+ million to be great, 100+ million to be incredible and 200+ million to be outstanding

this is all very relative lol but overall i'd say anything above 50 million views has me impressed

Highly relative

But I would say the 1 mil mark is roughly where I considering groups to no longer be deep in nugudom lol

If you make me pick just one number, then I'd pick 1 mil

But obviously this is irrelevant for groups that regularly break 10x that lol
