I'm disappointed at aespa

404 Live vocals not found

I actually liked their debut even tho I thought I wouldn't, but..

SM idols usually lipsync 1st week, later it's more or less live. aespa has all the stages prerecorded, no perfermance at radio show. I wanna hear VOCALZZZZ.

TBH entire 4th gen is disappointing in that aspect, is that a "new normal" for the future? I thought at least SM groups wouldn't go easy way

They've been marketing aespa on their whole digital avatar shtick so honestly I'm not surprised they're not trying to highlight their raw live vocals

Like they're not supposed to "feel" like these cute rookie girls who just wanna show you how well they can sing, they're already being marketed as these cool untouchable digital girls with a really plagiarized polished concept

Live vocals is a risky choice to make because, if they make a mistake (which happens, they're human) it doesn't suit their polished image. It seems pretty clear to me that SM wants to keep things smoothed out to perfection for their performances right now. And that's not really a good or a bad thing so much as just a stylistic choice. And I think it's super SM of them do that, to be honest haha.

SM has always stood out for their good vocals but like other people have said, 4th gen groups in general seem much more focused in the visual and performance aspect (cool aesthetic and outfits, intrincated choreo, good stage presence etc) than vocals. As long a group has catchy music and good performances most people don't care if they're good vocalists or not. Most kpop stans are here for the visuals, performances and aesthetics tbh.

Right now the only outstanding vocalists in 4th gen to me are Haeyoon, Yuju and Bora from Cherry Bullet and Jongho from ATEEZ. And Purple Kiss obviously but they haven't debuted yet.

Two weeks ago another user said maybe 4th gen will not focuse in voices more focused on performance and aesthetics

this is SM not any company . none of their groups focus manly on performing even NCT have one of the strongest vocal lines

Not gonna lie, personally I'm finding it hard to believe they're gonna be what's coming after Red Velvet. I mean, Wendy and Seulgi's voices...no one can say they're not absolutely amazing. I keep watching Seulgi's "Uncover" and I always feel like there's really an artist behind the idol image. Their concerts...just so mesmerizing and full of emotion. But Aespa...so far it feels like they want to imitate Itzy, Blackpink and K/DA concept-wise and there is this "normie rich girl" vibe about them that I really don't like. I will still keep an eye on them, see how they shape up in the future, but really hoping there will be more to them because right now it just isn't screaming "artist".

Also their fandom is shaping up to be extra toxic which is what scares me the most TBH. The comment sections are absolutely ridiculous with how offensive they are and even here they often go around clowning posts, as if everyone is outright wrong the moment they have an opinion about Aespa they don't approve of. Surely not making it look welcoming to join the fandom.

yuju isn't within the 4th gen they're on the same gen of red velvet..... haeyoon is around average or so maybe a low one but Bora is weak , Jongho isn't that strong too Purple kiss has only one main who can handle B4 ...not sure if those are the rising stars of the 4th gen tbh definitely not technically

I meant Yuju from Cherry Bullet, not Yuju from Gfriend.

And I know neither of those are technically that strong but in general they're above average for the 4th gen standard.

i’ve said that the priority of 4th gen is being eye-catching and everything comes after. anyways at least out of the 4 members of aespa, 3 are already proven to do more than just hold a note (the only one without a singing predebut video is giselle) sm is also being very stingy and restrictive with them but they just debuted and they have plenty of time to sing live.

winter did a little singing on radio and she is Divine i need more from her now.

yeah I noticed it, I just thought SM group wouldn't follow this trend to its fullest. maybe in another comeback they'll sing live, hopefully
