Viewer-led Truth Investigation Committee files for an appeal in 'Produce' survival series manipulation case, defendants to face Supreme Court

The viewer-led Truth Investigation Committee, formed some time after the end of Mnet's 'Produce X 101' to demand an official police investigation against the survival show for vote rigging allegations, has filed for an appeal of the recently concluded court trial and decision.

Back on November 18, the Seoul District Court sentenced former Mnet PD Ahn Joon Young and CP Kim Yong Bum with 2 years and 1 year and 8 months in prison, respectively, for the manipulation of the 'Produce' series. The court revealed that all four seasons of the survival program underwent varying degrees of vote manipulations, and also unveiled the list of former trainees from the show who were victimized by the manipulations.

However, the Truth Investigation Committee has decided to file for an appeal due to the fact that several former entertainment agency representatives who were charged with offering Ahn PD and Kim CP bribes received a lesser sentence during the District Court's recent appeal trial decision. The former entertainment agency reps, who were sentenced to fines during the initial trial, were sentenced to community service hours as well as a probation period of 2 years during the recent appeal trial.

The prosecution, representing the Truth Investigation Committee, has also agreed to file for another appeal in the case, meaning that the defendants of the case including several former entertainment agency representatives and others will face the Seoul Supreme Court in another series of trials.

what will happen to chowon and gaeun? are they gonna get their justice???

They will have to sue to get any kind of justice. And the case might take many years and is expensive. Korean courts also might suggest both parties to negotiate things for many many times even if previously they didn't found an agreement. Expensive and very stressful process.
Their best bet would be probably to negotiate the payments. They could ask for a compensation of the size of the profit that 1 member of the group was/is getting during all this time + compensation because it affected their status, image and fame.

5 agency reps from 4 ent companies were indicted.  [x] .
All 5 reps were found guilty and charged with fines ranging from 5M - 7M each in the first trial on May 29 2020. [x]
During the appeals trial (Nov 27 2020), all 5 reps were still found guilty and received heavier sentences
-- aside from the fine, each rep got an additional eight-month prison sentence that are suspended for two years of probation.
This means that they will only serve the prison sentences if they commit another offense during the probation period. [x

Around US Ent rep Kim - fined 7m won in the first trial, additional 8mo suspended prison sentence for 2yr probation in the appeals trial
(ex) Woollim Ent rep Lee - fined 7m won in the first trial, additional 8mo suspended prison sentence for 2yr probation in the appeals trial
(ex) 8D Creative rep (but was also former Woollim Ent rep and now Enfant Terrible rep) Ryu - fined 7m won in the first trial, additional 8mo suspended prison sentence for 2yr probation in the appeals trial
2 Starship Ent executives Kim and Kim - fined 5M won each in the first trial, additional 8mo suspended prison sentence for 2yr probation each in the appeals trial

People have been asking who the rigged-in members are

But doesn't this list of indicted entertainment company reps and executives kind of speak for itself?

I'm genuinely curious bc I'm just kinda watching from the outside

But if two Starships execs are going to jail over bribery charges, isn't it reasonable to conclude that that's got something to do with the Starship-contracted contestants? And so on

When it comes to Starship I kinda believe they paid to get Wonyoung the center position. Bribing doesnt mean only rigging someone in but also paying for exsct ranking or screentime.

Not really. These likely were accumulated through the last 2 seasons. I believe Around Us sent no one to Produce 48. Neither anyone from this agency was selected for X1. Meanwhile, no one from 8D went to Produce X.

Probably.
In Starship's case tho, one of their trainees was rigged out of X1 (Jungmo).
So idk if they intended to rig him out, or thought that his rank would be safe and focused on rigging other trainees in.
Although them not reacting to report about Jungmo getting cheated out of X1 was very sus.

That 8D Ent rep has worked for 4 companies
pre-Produce 48 : Woollim (former manager of Infinite)
Produce 48: 8D Creative
Produce X: Enfant Terrible
post-Produce X: Majesty Ent
In their press release 8D Creative said that the rep was indicted for actions he did as an Enfant Terrible rep.
And that their office was not raided in connection with Produce X.
The ones raided were Starship, Woollim, and MBK [x]
However there were some unnamed agencies that the police visited but not raided in connection with Produce 48. [x]
Idk if 8D Creative was of those agencies visited, but them keeping mum on that is kinda sus.

As for Around Us Ent, some of their staff are ex-Cube employees who switched to Around Us when B2ST/Highlight switched.
altho idk if the Around Us rep in this particular case was an ex-Cube employee or not.

My thoughts too.
I'd also like to add that another possible reason for the bribery is to change the trainee's "edit" (ex: evil edit, angel edit, etc)
That's why some of the indicted agency reps got charged even tho none of the trainees ended up in the debut lineup.
And another possible reason for the bribery is not for the sake of their current agency but for the sake of their previous/future agency (ex: 8D rep)
And the ranking manipulation happened not just in  the final ranking, but in the preliminary rankings too.
==
Interesting how MBK got raided but none of their reps got indicted.
Makes me wonder if one of the indicted reps has previous connections with them,
Or if they got off indictment due to a technicality,
because last time they were suspected of vote manipulation in Produce S1 by  ordering staff to spam-vote their trainees into the lineup using 100k borrowed accounts. [x]
