So out of all the idols/celebs "celebrating" China's "involvement" in the Korean war, I partly understand Jackie Chan, even tho I disagree abt his actions overall.

I give Jackie Chan the least benefit of the doubt of anyone. That man was made an international star by Hollywood, making many millions off of Americans, and he still has the audacity to go super nationalist and insult our country. Fuck him.

Resist US?

I thought that Biden's presidency would cancel all China related inconveniences caused during Trump era, cos global businessmen won over local american business.

Or is it a staged action by China just to mislead global audience and to give us a message like "we don't like Biden too" and "we won'r profit from Biden either"???

That's funny actually.

Let's see what happens next.

You can't say that anybody made Jackie Chan, the man is a prodigy

The way some of you guys talk like these celebrities don't actually live and work in China. What do you expect? If the CCP wants public support from them, they're going to have to do it or face being blacklisted. Being a celebrity does not mean you'll be protected as evident by what happened to Fan Bingbing.

If celebrities suddenly speak out in support of one thing, it's probably that a memo has been passed around to do it. They also don't want to get involved in politics.

World-hated country China may be, it is still their home and everyone should keep that in mind instead of expecting things to play out like it would in your country. Not everyone is fortunate enough to live somewhere with freedom of speech.

Hongkong was under British administration back in 1989 and not under China until 1997.
His son Jaycee became a HK resident in 2003 [x].
Jackie's films Rush Hour 3 and the Shinjuku incident got banned in China in 2007 and 2008 for strange reasons. [x]  [x]
After that Jackie Chan became the Narcotics Control Ambassador of the Chinese police in 2009 and started making pro-CN, anti-HK and anti-TW statements.
His son Jaycee was arrested for drug offences in 2015, a crime where the capital punishment is execution. [x
And he became even more pro-China after that.
So i still think Jackie's love toward China nowadays has sth do with him and his family's safety.

I can't change what a fans want to believe. But as a Hongkonger, we all know those celebrities (not only him) choose to be pro-china on their own behave. If they don't show their love toward the regime, yes, they might lose the market but life-threatening safety? Bullshit. They might face life-threatening safety issue if he/she act as a human right activist. CCP is busy threatening all those human right lawyers, scholars and people in concentration camp. A clown like Jackie Chan? U think too high of him.

I am just so sick of all those "they have no choice....they r force.....they have family in china.....they don't mean that bla bla bla......i rather fans say they r a fan of their movie/song only and they don't care what kind of person he/she is. Stay in the bubbles!

Here is the thing:

Sure, there is Chinese propaganda using celebrity. And these messages may be a request from the government.

BUT, please do remember, these celebs are the by-product of a messed up society. It is more likely than not that they themselves believe in those messages. And participate in those activities by choice. You don't need to feel guilty for liking movies/dramas/songs... made by them, or shame people who choose to do so, but be rational.

It reminds me of my Chinese friend who I spent a few months in Australia with. He was bitching about how some "celeb from Taiwan wants chinese money but did not share the South China Sea message". I was literally face-palmed, because the issue involved Vietnam and Indonesia, and he was THAT ignorant to blatantly complained about that to a Vietnamese (me) and Indonesian (our other friend). I called him out and yep, his answer confirmed their knowledge is limited to "The world does China wrong" without any proof or evidence.

You don't have to be a Jackie Chan fan to find all those sources I cited in the previous thread.
I'm a Jieqiong and Xiao Zhan stan and found those sources just by  googling and looking up his wiki.
I'm not a fan of action movies and didn't even know he's a singer until now lol.

Another thing I found during my search is that Jackie Chan didn't even audition to be in US films like Rush Hour. Brett Ratner (the director) saw how successful Jackie Chan's previous film was and went to HK to persuade him to join the cast. [x]
So blame Hollywood for hiring pro-China artists like Jackie Chan and the Mulan girl (Liu Yifei)
and also for censoring any references to Tibet and Taiwan in movies like Top Gun and Doctor Strange to appease Chinese censors. [x]

imo you can cancel celebs like Jackie Chan, Jieqiong, etc but not villainize them.
Yes, they could not compare to celebs like Chow Yun Fat and Denise Ho who sacrificed their career for supporting the HK protests. [x]
nor to journalists, lawyers, and ordinary people who lost their freedom and even their lives in the protests.
But rather than be disgusted at them, I feel pity for them esp when there's reason to believe that they were coerced into doing it, unlike celebs  who seem to be really into it (ex: Lay).
But they should still be cancelled by not supporting their future projects,
to let the Chinese govt know that involving celebs in their political issues (whether voluntarily or coerced) would hinder rather than help their cause.

I don't blame Hollywood or whatsoever about casting a pro-china actor. They are westerners n it was all about business. I don't care; i just don't watch them. Yes, Jackie has a very successful career, u don't need to remind me of that part; I grew up with his movies. I wouldn't call him a villain but he certainly is a not a good man (imo) to his daughter and in the heart of pro-democracy Hongkongers. Some of the celebs are coerced into doing the propaganda by their companies but NEVER Jackie Chan. As i said , i can't change what u want to believe, but i am sick of him and disgusted by him which i cannot lie to myself especially everytime when i say i am from hong kong in foreign countries, people say Jackie Chan😒.

To me, chinese celebs are divided into groups like this

1) Love China

2) Love the regime

3) Love RMB, love the market

4) Don't know n don't care. Retweet propaganda? Sure, Why not?

PS, Ccp is doing a very good job combining 1&2 in these years.

Jackie? He is 1 for sure and the line between 1 n 2 is very blurry now.

PS, i only talk about Jackie in my comments, i didn't mention others such as Jieqiong.

Wait even Luhan really?! I am not surprise at Lay at all because he really is very patriotic. He genuinely is a big supporter of CCP. No need to force him. But Luhan doesn't seem to have any interest in political matters & he is also very reasonable so I am suprise he posted to support North Korea. If it was to support China then understandable. Even Kris and Tao did not post anything. And I'm even more shock at Victoria when she live & promoted for years in South Korea even more than the former EXO Chinese boys.

Also I understand why Chinese want to resist the US since they do have tense relation but why do they want to help North Korea?! Why assist them?! Is there some kind of alliance between CCP & North Korea?!

I feel especially disappointed with Yibo and Xiao Zhan.

They acted as a gay couple in "The Untamed" and due to censorship their careers could have gone down the drain. After that, I expected some sensitivity on their part, (especially Yibo who has been performing in Korea for years) but I was clearly in the wrong.

“Just develop domestically in the future, the amount of domestic fans is already enough.”

That user's comment is especially practical given the size of China's domestic market.  The big thing about stanning Chinese celebrities as a non-Chinese is that you should note that they are very likely to have politics that you may disagree with (especially if you're a Westerner and/or from somewhere with huge rivalry with China)
